Goa to Host India's First Reggae Festival

Ten-second takeaway

With a lineup of reggae artistes from across the globe, Goa Reggae Sunsplash, India's first reggae sound system culture festival has much for us to look forward to.

Reggae sounds

While the reggae scene might still be niche the country, here's something which might make you want to check out more of this genre, which originated in Jamaica in the 1960s. Goa is all set to host the Goa Reggae Sunsplash, the first international reggae festival to happen in the country! Expect a whole day of lively music (apart from lots of sun and sand, of course), characterised by the relatively slow tempo and skank guitar rhythm so typical of reggae. While you're there, make sure you also take a look at 10,000 Lions. That's the mighty, hand-crafted custom built sound system made in Goa, exclusively for this event.

All-day reggae

Curated by Reggae Rajahs (the Delhi-based reggae and dancehall band), the music festival features an impressive lineup of artistes. We suggest you look out for the acts by General Levy (English reggae DJ), Naaman (French reggae singer), Steppa Style (one of the first reggae musicians from Russia), Dub Smugglers (reggae and dub band from Manchester, UK), Forelock (reggae singer from Sardinia, Italy) and Rudy Roots (DJ from France), among others. Also on the playlist will be performances by Indian bands, Delhi Sultanate, Dakta Dub, King Jassim and EZ Riser. What's more, you also have happening pre-parties and a post-party to head to, making it a four-day celebration that's definitely not to be missed!
