Shop for sarees, fabrics and bed linens adorned with kantha embroidery hand-woven by artisans from Bengal’s Murshidabad at this NGO-backed store.

A Fine Art

Recently opened, The Kantha Store displays a selection of cotton and lightweight silk sarees done up in gorgeous deep maroons, floral patterns, and classic shades like blacks and golden-tinged creams. Each piece carries long lines of typical Kantha {a type of embroidery that uses running stitches to create patterns, typical to Bengal} stitches with a variety of patterns running across borders and pallus. The shelves also come stacked with handcrafted duvets that are covered in multi-hued floral designs. There are also grand bedspreads that will add a dash of glamour to your bedroom. You can also pack up pillow covers in bright blues and greens as well subtle greys and pinks.

Katna’s Kantha

Everything you find at the store has been sourced from Katna, that’s part of Murshidabad. Started off by the Street Survivors India project, the initiative provides a livelihood to women from Katna and its surrounding villages. Muslims are a majority in Murshidabad. This is why, products at The Kantha Store are devoid of the traditional Hinduism-inspired depictions of marriages or of religious motifs. Instead, you’ll find geometrical and intricate floral patterns that are unique to this region.

Navya considers herself to be the Cassandra of the 21st century – no one ever listens to the wisdom that she so willingly imparts. This is the only Greek tragedy element in her otherwise happy life. She’s got her Husband Charming, has perfected the art of sarcasm, is always fed copious amounts of good food, and is well on her way to self-actualization.
