Mixed bag

ITC Fortune’s all-day restaurant, this one offers Indian, Oriental and European food. Breakfast, lunch or dinner you’ll be spoiled for choice here. All meals feature a buffet which is competent and offers a mix of salads, soup, and usual suspects like biryani, dal, noodles, pasta, chaat and of course, the day specials. But our focus is on the a la carte section. Settling in with Yellow Punch {orange, pineapple and mango juice with Grenadine syrup} and a simple Cold Coffee, we started our quest.

Globe trotting

Begin with Norwegian Smoked Salad in a light horseradish cream and the Rucola, Celery and Walnut salad. The former is a real treat and the veggie salad comes together thanks to the mustard garlic dressing which adds the right amout of piquant punch. If you’re thinking Middle Eastern for starters, the Mezze Platter is quite good. We particularly liked the Tabbouleh, mostly because for once, it wasn’t like a masala tomato and onion chaat. There’s an entire section of Indian street food and for us, it was the Snack Basket – Pakoda, Samosa, Kachori, Dal Vadai and Bonda, that cured our munchies. A special shout out to the Crispy Fish Burger {oddly under starters}, for its perfectly crisp outside and soft inside, just moist enough to work with the bun.

Tuck in

Mains range from Lal Maas and Potato Ulli Theeyal {potato and shallots in a tamarind gravy} to Lobster Thermodire {oh, so filling but so divine} and Rosemary Grilled Chicken {doused in red wine spiked Rosemary marinade}. Grilled Lamb Chops, another signature, in a black pepper sauce just falls off the bone, and is worth skipping appetisers for. Gunning for Oriental food? Tofu in spicy Sichuan sauce fights for first place with Steamed River Sole steamed with ginger and spring onion for a fragrant and light dish. End with Apple Strudle {slightly dry but with the authentic flavours} and the Sinful Chocolate – mousse flavoured with {copious amounts} of Cointreau and Cognac.

So we’re thinking…

Great to impress a client or date, this one gives you star-quality service, without burning a {relative} hole in your pocket.
