Calling all runners
When Arvind Krishnan {founder of Fuller Life, a city-based employee engagement company} started the community, Runners For Life {RFL} in 2005, all he had in mind was to create a common platform for fellow runners in the city. What began as a casual Google group gradually gathered mass and, over time, grew into a full-fledged organisation, claimed to be India's largest running community. RFL hosts three major annual running events apart from partnering with other events across the country.
Get set, go
Their corporate relay event, Urban Stampede {happening in seven different cities}, is open to beginners as well as experienced runners and covers relatively short distances like 5km and 10km {oh, and this year's Bangalore race is coming up this month!}. Want something more demanding? Sign up for their Bangalore Ultra event which has categories like 50km, 75km and 100km runs as well as a 24-hour Challenge {maximum distance covered within 24 hours}. Started in 2007 and taking place during the second weekend of every November, this is apparently India's first ultramarathon. And, what's more, it takes place in the Hennur bamboo forest, adding a dose of scenic beauty to motivate you on.
Run along
Offering another interesting experience for dedicated runners is the Kaveri Trail Marathon {happens every September}. Starting off in Srirangapatna {which is close to the origin of the river Kaveri}, the half and full marathon trails have the river on one side and an expansive paddy field on the other, also passing through the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. You might even get to spot some migratory bird species if you have a moment to spare. Unique experiences that combine fitness, hobby and leisure, their runs might just be worth signing up for.
