Whether you are on a shoe-string budget or want to make the most of Goa by hanging around for a long stretch of time, the Funky Monkey Hostel in Anjuna will sort you out. And the bigger your squad, the better, because these guys love to encourage a community feeling between global travellers.

Bare Neccessities

This is a hostel, housed in a sprawling bungalow with a big garden outside, suited to backpackers, solo travellers and fuss-free nomads. The balconies come with plenty of options to sit and chill with a book, while the common area, full of bean bags and comfy seating, is perfect for movie nights organised by the hostel. Travellers from all over the world converge here, and in fact, the hostel is also run by a bunch of intrepid travellers. The garden outside is criss-crossed with colourful prayer flags and the vibe is easy going and oh-so hippie.

The hostel comes with free WIFI and free breakfast. Guests have access to their own lockers. There are two kinds of stay available — dorms and private rooms. While two of the dorms are unisex, one is exclusively for women. The dorms here cost as little as INR 399 {a six-bed dorm} a night and a private twin room will set you back by INR 1,800 . The beds in the room though basic, come with fresh sheets, clean towels and a blanket. The showers in the toilets {these are shared} come with hot water at all times and there is plug point next to every bed.

Things To Do

If the hostel’s simple breakfast won’t do for you, then just a five-minute bike ride away is a crazy food and drink scene waiting for you. First up is Artjuna, a beautiful ope air cafe where you can tuck into everything from  granola chocolate cookies to fresh juices or even Middle Eastern specials such as the Hamshouka. Our other favourite has to be Natti’s Naturals where you can try everything from organic fresh salads to sandwiches and juices, and even shop for natural beauty products, get yourself a yoga mat or buy free flowing apparel with a distinct Goan vibe. Then there’s the Burger Factory for the gluttons with several gourmet options.

#LBBTip
