Mark April 8: You get to Watch The Jungle Book Before the Whole World

The information in this post might be outdated

Ten-second takeaway

Get set to watch Kaa, Bagheera, Baloo and Mowgli real soon. So soon that you get to watch this very realistic reboot of Disney’s The Jungle Book before anyone else. April 8, peeps. Schedule it now.

Bear necessities

Oh yes! The voice of 1.2 billion people, and all the charmingly wild animals in our vast country finally count for something. The Jon Favreau directed live-action film, The Jungle Book, is all set to release in India on April 8, a week before USA, UK and ergo the rest of the world. The fact that it is so intrinsic to our upbringing, and is set in India and talks about an Indian boy, also might have something to do with this early release, but we can dream.

Trust in us

So gear up to watch this very CGI-heavy film which sees the young Neel Sethi donning the infamous orange ‘chaddis’ in his role as Mowgli, the man-cub brought up by a pack of wolves. As the only real character in the film, the rest of the supporting cast though voices only, will knock the socks off you. The iconic Baloo comes to life thanks to Bill Murray while his panther buddy, Bagheera is the unmistakable Ben Kingsley. British actor Idris Elba may not be the next James Bond but he takes on the role of Shere Khan, Lupita Nyong'o is Raksha, Christopher Walken is the amusing monkey, King Louie. The most anticipated of all though is the sultry and even eerie voice given to Kaa by Scarlett Johansson.

So we're thinking…

While we’d ideally like to watch the movie, umm, this weekend, we’re thrilled to be the first to be able to watch the legendary tale by Rudyard Kipling come back to life and hopefully to last a few more generations like its predecessor did.
