Directed by danseuse Meghna Das, Neelachal is a performance that will celebrate one of India's oldest dance forms - Odissi. Known to be the most lyrical forms of classical dance, this is a tribute to the dance form itself, as well as gurus of the art, who Meghna says she was lucky enough to learn from. And of course, that includes her own mother and first Guru, Sahana Das. Incidentally, Neelachal was Sahana's first production too.
The performance is expected to be choreographies of Guru Mayadhar Raut, and traditional forms of the dance is what you'll see. And it's something that you may not really get to see to often any more, especially in our side of the country. They're also unusual pieces that have been revived, making it even more intriguing; even for those who don't quite understand Odissi.
Apart from Meghna, the programme includes Anjali Raj Urs, Swati Prasad and Akila Venkat, who all bring in their particular expertise to the choreography.
