Rayakottai fort is an ancient fortress built by Hyder Ali in the 18th century and ruled by Tipu Sultan.

It's an easy trek with a beautiful view of the caves and ruins and greens. This place is every broke traveller's dream because it's well connected by train and buses from Bengaluru.

The Karaikal passenger train from Bengaluru city railway station has a stop at Rayakottai and the rest of it is a short walk, to the base of the hill. The whole trip would cost less than 150 INR. There are no extra charge or entrance fee at the base of the Fort.
