Warm Up This Winter With Our Pick Of Christmas Beer Brews Around Town

The information in this post might be outdated

We at Team LBB love Christmas almost as much as we love beer, so what sounds better than combining the two? We’ve done the work for you, and have compiled a list of seasonal beer brews you can sip on to get you through the holidays in the most delicious way possible. From beers that taste like Christmas cakes, to ones that’ll remind you of a traditional log fire, our list is sure to keep you jolly!

Saison Beer And Christmas Brew At Biere Street/The Biere Club

This microbrewery is coming out with two winter special beers this year! The first is their experimental Saison beer, which is fermented at a high temperature, giving it a spiced perception — most people taste hints of cloves and ginger, which comes from the yeast. The second beer, available from Saturday, December 24 onwards, is a Christmas special, so you can expect notes of plum, raisins, cinnamon and orange peels, giving the brew a dark shade. The beer is made in a Belgian style, with flavour notes like molasses and brown sugar on the tongue, and with a more rum-soaked plum aroma. Sounds delicious, right?

Santa Ale At Toit

We love Toit for their all-year round menus, so when there’s something seasonal we’re extra excited. Their annual Santa Ale is back — made using a whole bunch Christmasy spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla beans and star anise, giving it a dark amber colour. This beer is both sweet and spicy, with a lingering hint of maltiness — it’s like drinking a Christmas cake! Expect an initially sweet, malty flavour that gives way to a warmth from the spices.

Smoked Weizen And Christmas Ale At Windmills

The Smoked Weizen is a German-style brew, made using Beechwood-smoked Barley, giving the otherwise fruity Hefeweizen a touch of smokiness, reminding us of a warm, crackling fireplace. Windmills has also come out with their Christmas Ale, a seasonal brew crafted with crisp Maris Otter barley, crystal malt and a host of spices like ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. You can expect a flavour of cinnamon bark on the tongue, and a spicy, lingering aftertaste of ginger!

Cider Rider At Prost

Sure, this one isn’t a Christmas special per se, but it’s still pretty apt for the season, don’t you think? The beer is made from Himalayan apples and other seasonal fruits, meaning it never tastes the same year round! It’s slightly sweet and aromatic, with a rich amber colour, fitting the winter aesthetic and flavour profile quite well.
