As a yoga teacher, I’ve taught in many cities in India and abroad, and for me, Bangalore is an interesting blend of yoga schools with multiple branches. These yoga schools are also led by dynamic yogi-entrepreneurs, as well as respected yoga teachers at their boutique studios. Since Bangalore is so close to Mysore, one might have imagined an overdose of Ashtanga Yoga here in the city, but that’s not the case. There’s a really good mix of different styles taught here. Check out the Yoga schools in Bangalore and get your fitness goals back on track.

Total Yoga

Total Yoga is a yoga school focused on both body and mind. There are three branches in Bangalore along with studios in Pune, Dubai, UK, Newzealand, and the USA. The school is known for its various events including Run+Yoga, Yogi Brunches, and Himalayan Yoga retreats. Teacher Training is also conducted here. It is INR 600 for a single session here and INR 4,000 upwards (plus taxes) for monthly classes.

a1000 Yoga

As the name suggests, the idea has been to present various yoga styles under one roof at this school. Founded by Pradeep Gowda, this school is known for its beautiful studios, range of yoga classes — from Iyengar to Ashtanga and Power yoga, along with Teacher Training courses. They also offer advanced hatha yoga course, ashtanga vinyasa course, pranayama course, and continuing education program.

Akshar Power Yoga

Founded by Akshar, Akshar Power Yoga is a dynamic yoga style with 16 branches in Bangalore and also in Coorg. Described as an aesthetic blend of eight arts, the practice also focuses on Weight Loss programs. They teach different types of yoga such as Power Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Ariel Yoga among others.  Apart from large yoga events that it is known for, the school also conducts Teacher Training Certification courses. The yoga classes here are priced at INR 9,500 for three months.

Aayana Yoga Academy

Founded and led by Regeesh Vattakandy, Aayana Yoga academy has two branches in Bangalore. What sets the school apart from others would be its combination of tradition and a post-modern approach to yoga, suited to today’s lifestyle and needs. Apart from regular retreats, workshops, advanced asana classes and group classes (including one for kids), they also have Teacher Teacher Programs to pick from.

Bharat Thakur's Artistic Yoga

The original modern yogi-entrepreneur of India, Bharat Thakur helped take yoga to a younger generation across the country. With a branch in Indiranagar, the school is best known for its weight loss programs. Often described as intense and dynamic, this style supposedly blends ancient yogic knowledge with sports medicine. Teacher Training is conducted in Kathmandu.
