What Makes It Awesome

Walk into Easwari Lending Library in Gopalapuram and the musty smell of books hits you, immediately transporting you back a few decades. Rows of magazines lined up on the side, the cash counter with some priceless first edition Childcraft book series, and a plethora of eye-popping book spines stacked floor to ceiling, are the first things that greet you.

T.N. Palani, the founder of this wonderful 62 year-old enterprise with his simple unassuming demeanour, doesn't talk much, but he knows his books. Ask him where the new edition of Harry Potter is or the older Enid Blyton books and he would know the answer.

There's something about reading a lived-in book that no amount of technology can really replace. Discover some great titles housed in rickety iron racks like the older Archie Comics, Tin Tin, Tinkle and classics like Sydney Sheldon. Put that Kindle down and re-read these treasures at your leisure. And who says romance is dead? Grab some of the hard-to-find, yesteryear editions of Mills & Boon that are just itching to be dusted off and read. Whether it's the latest John Grisham thriller or non-fiction biographies, they've got them all. Want to browse through expensive magazines and their back issues? Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, GQ and other top magazines are available. They even have Tamil books and magazines that older folk would love reading, so there's something for everyone.

The next generation of the family have now expanded the business to other locations too! Eleven to be exact. They have an online presence now and recently ventured into door-to-door delivery, where you can even reserve them on their website or simply give them a call. So stop throwing your money at books you will only read once and rent them instead from this amazing place.

What's My Pro Tip?

Members can rent books for 10-15 days and you can always extend the dates for an additional fee. The rental fee depends on the type of book and how much demand it has, but on an average it's anywhere from INR 30 to INR 60 per book {ideally 10% of the cost of the book}. You can also sign up for a yearly subscription for all the books you can read!
