For all those women who are concerned about the environment but are comfortable using only sanitary napkins as against other alternatives (cups, tampons, etc), you can rejoice.
Preethi Ramadoss, a researcher from Chennai has created 100% eco-friendly sanitary pads which degrade within a month and contain no plastic. They are made from cellulose materials and include neem, lemon, turmeric, and vetiver extracts. She says these pads can be flushed into the toilet directly as they are not toxic and degrade pretty quickly. Don’t worry about the safety factor, as these pads have passed rigorous testing processes and have been declared A okay to use. A pack of pads would probably cost less than INR 100, but we will find out soon.
