Do Your Bit & Donate To NGOs Providing Relief For Covid-19

With Coronavirus affecting millions of livelihoods - most of the sufferers include daily wage earners and slum dwellers who are unable to bear the burden of Covid-19. 

For the same, a number of NGOs across the country are collecting funds in order to help them with food and other necessities. If you want to help too, make sure to bookmark this list to do your bit.

Uday Foundation

Uday Foundation is one of the very few foundations that has always stood in the front when it comes to providing urgent relief materials and aid to the needy and this time, it's no different. For Covid-19, you could help by donating a care kit that comprises of six antiseptic soaps and a hand sanitiser or you could donate one's month food supply that will include flour, rice, pulses, cooking oil, and other food items. 

All the donations that you make through Uday Foundation, they are eligible for 50% tax exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

Care kit for one person will cost INR 450 while one month's food supply kit for a person will cost INR 1,500.

Support The Daily Wage Earner Fundraiser

'Support the daily wage earner, dhobi ghats, and slum dwellers,' - this fundraiser is organised by Riddhi Shah of Mumbai where the money raised will provide the needy with soaps, sanitisers, masks, food packets, and medicines. 

Some of the areas that will be covered are Banganga, Lower Parel, Colaba, and Cuffe Parade slums, Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, Colaba Macchimar Nagar, and Neapean Sea Road slums and kholis. 

You can donate as much as you like. 

Zomato Feeding India

With a network of 26,000+ volunteers across 100+ cities in the country, through this project, Zomato is providing food support to daily wage workers and their families. They are providing a meal kit that will consist of wheat flour, rice, and two types of pulses. Each kit can feed a family of five for a week and will cost around INR 500.

You can choose to donate for one family or more.

SAFA Society

SAFA society has recently launched a campaign that will collect funds for the daily wage earners. The NGO would be making relief kits out of the funds that will be collected. The kits will include atta, rice, arhar dal, chana dal, mustard oil, sugar, tea, salt, and soap. These relief packages will be distributed across four cities which are Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. 

You can donate a minimum of INR 500.

All the donations are exempted under section 80G of Income Tax Act.

Pranyas Development Foundation

Pranyas Development Foundation has started a fundraising campaign where the foundation would distribute raw or cooked food (two meals per day), distribute helpline numbers given by the government, and distribute masks and soaps to daily wage earners across different cities in the country.

After you donate, you can even keep a track of the updates as to how the funds are being utilised.

Akshaya Patra Foundation

Akshaya Patra Foundation in coordination with state governments and district administration has been providing relief either by providing cooked meals or dry ration to the people in need. They are currently serving in Rajasthan, Gujarat, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Chattisgarh, Orissa, and Telangana. 

Each cooked meal is costing them INR 20 and each grocery kit that consists of rice, pulses, oil, spices, and vegetables is costing them INR 750. This grocery kit can serve 2 people with 42 meals for 21 days. 

Donatekart

Donatekart is an online donations platform where you can directly donate to a particular NGO. They have a number of NGOs registered with them and you can select a campaign of your choice to donate. Currently, they have a campaign called, 'Help the families of daily wage labourers' where around six NGOs are the beneficiaries and will help in providing meals and more to the needy. 

You can donate a grocery kit that will cost around INR 600 and consists of 4kg rice, 1kg dal, 1litre oil, 1kg salt, 100gm of turmeric, and 100gm of red mirchi.

India Fights Corona By Give India

Give India had launched this emergency campaign called, India Fights Corona a while back and it aims to provide cash support and dry ration support to migrant workers and their families. Give India is making sure to verify the families through ration card, aadhar card so that the provisions reach the right families. 

The states covered by Give India are, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Assam, Kerala, Bihar, and Chattisgarh.

Also, donations made to Give India are under tax exemption.
