Bag It! | Carry these in Spring/Summer 2014

The information in this post might be outdated

The fact is plain for all to see; there’s no accessory we own more of, and there’s a perfectly legitimate way to explain this. You need {not want} one for every mood, outfit, event and time of day. With Autumn/Winter drawing to a close, sashaying in comes Spring/Summer with new trends, colours and styles we’re going to need {not want} all over again!

Two things to know to stay au courant: for the most of it, expect to see big bags this season. Even clutches will be oversized, so they can actually fit more than just a safety pin. Secondly, you’ll find a lot of sport inspired and versatile styles in a plethora of pantone-selected pastels {placid blue, mint green and violet} and pops of vibrant colours {cayenne, orange, electric blue and radiant orchid}. We picked the top 6 trending styles this season; be prepared to get carried away!

satchelsA continuing trend from 2013, a satchel is essentially a cross-body bag. Including messengers and smaller versions, a lot of designers showed single and double handle satchels, with options that come with detachable straps.

totes

Also known as the shopper at some stores and online portals, the tote dominated last season. You’ll notice a lot of renditions of this style. The shopper is a flimsy, slouchy, sans-lining bag, and you will also find structured counterparts with clean lines and more stiff lining. A popular shape for the more structured variety {and inspired from Celine} is the Pentagon.

clutch

You can finally actually carry your own phone to parties, and not have to try and remember whose pocket you put it in. Seems designers have realized that all the essentials don’t fit in pea-sized bags, and therefore the clutch has grown significantly. You’ll find a lot of medium to large-sized clutches, with soft fabrication and less structured silhouettes. This trend is also in the way you wear it. New York Fashion Week saw a lot of regular bags with straps being held as clutches.

PRINTSAlthough it broke our hearts to learn that Aztec was on its way out, a lot of printed and art inspired bags found their way to runways this season. The bags in question may look hand-painted, or feature graffiti-inspired artwork. If your bags are your statement pieces in an outfit, this trend is right up your alley.

A classic for the closet, white bags were also popular during fashion week. Since a lot of the Spring/Summer designs showcased busy prints and a mix of colors, the bags were kept a neutral white so as to not take away from the outfits. For ladies who invest in classics, a white bag should be your next buy.
