Barcelos Has Come to HKV

Ten Second Takeaway

After creating a  buzz with its black burgerred burger and white burger, South African chain Barcelos has opened its second outlet in Delhi's Hauz Khas Village: It's  bigger and the ambience, in contrast to the Khan Market outlet, is very modern.

Design FTW

barcelosWhat impressed us most is how much thought must have gone into the design of the place. Located right beside Imperfecto on the first floor, the restaurant has an uncluttered seating area which you won't find in most HKV eateries. It's got a two-table outdoor seating, a quick-dine space, big bar and a more laid-back lounge, along with a separate smoking area. It's warm, colourful {thanks to the wall murals} and gets plenty of natural light.

The eats and the drinks

11102722_397660363747281_5600287793728568616_nWe tried the summery Kiwi Cooler {kiwi puree with spices and Sprite} and Hey Rosey {rose syrup, cardamom, rose water, petals and vodka} which took us back to spring days. These are created using the liquid nitrogen tactic—something we felt was a tad unnecessary—but we enjoyed the show anyway.

We then tried the Vegetarian Platter: A mix of grilled paneer, pineapple, babycorn, stuffed mushrooms and kebabs that'll fill you up. We must state here that their portions are massive. The Veg Falafel Pita, that has crunchy veggies, nicely done falafel patties and a mayo-based dressing that holds it all together was a winner for us.

We then indulged in some mini sliders done in Barcelos's signature coloured buns. Available in potato and chicken variants, we especially liked the white one for its weird, yet innovative, combination of coconut and orange. We finished off with a lovely Hot Chocolate Brownie with silver-coated vanilla ice cream and a nutty biscuit. Yum.

Chicken enthusiasts, do try  the Chicken Espetada, Flame Grilled Peri Peri Chicken, and Chicken Liver with Garlic bread: We hear they're the bee's knees.

So we're saying

In conclusion, we're pretty impressed with the chicken restaurant chain's vegetarian food and think it's a great place to get tipsy on the molecular cocktails, and click a gazillion selfies in front of their pretty walls- #Instagrammed.
