Shortcut

A few days of lounging on the beach, swimming, going to the spa, indulging in spicy local Sri Lankan delicacies and perusing local spots and turtle farms- sounds like your kind of vacay? Check into Cinnamon Bey at Beruwala.

Water water everywhere

… and plenty to drink too. Cinnamon Bey is home to multiple pools and also borders the beach, so if you’re a water baby, you’ll feel right at home. The sandy beach strip is ideal for long barefoot walks and if you keep at it, you’ll reach a point with a couple of shack restaurants, which serve the freshest seafood – the best to sample local cuisine at. You can also indulge in a foot massage here, at a minimal price.

But when the tide is high, you can still keep that bikini on and take a swim in the main pool, which is massive. And since you get a clear view of the beach and the palm trees, it ends up feeling like an infinity pool. They also have a decent-sized kiddie pool in case you have any toddlers travelling with you.

When you just want to take a nap, the recliner in your room’s balcony proves to be the best. The rooms also come with TVs, a mini bar and all the usual accompaniments. For further privacy, they have larger luxury cottage rooms, which extend out onto a garden.

Breakfast buffet & home-made ice cream FTW

Whereas we’d strongly recommend planning your meals outside of the resort, breakfast is one meal you should catch here at least once. The buffet spread takes place in their restaurant, aptly named Bufe and comprises a massive spread of breads, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, sausages, beef curry, rice, waffles, pancakes; basically anything you could possibly ask for. However, your experience here is incomplete without a taste their home-made ice cream- we NOMinate the cinnamon.

Spas, turtles and a dose of history

If you do decide to step out of your cocoon at Cinnamon Bey, there are quite a few places to visit. Highlights include a turtle hatchery, a mask museum, the nearby town of Bentota {this is accessible by tuk tuk}, and the Galle Fort. Just call up the reception and they’ll hook you up with a cab and possibly a guide.

And when you’re done walking through the nooks and corners, unwind at the resort’s spa. The staff at Cinnamon Bey goes out of their way to accommodate all your needs and the property is as comfortable as it is stunning.

So, the next time you get a few days off, do consider Cinnamon Bey for the next vacay with bae?
