Elephant Bathing & Craft Workshops: Offbeat Things to Do in Jaipur

The information in this post might be outdated

We have our sights on Jaipur in Jan 2016 and with our accommodation already figured out, we’re looking for fun things to do around town. While JLF is on our list anyway, these have us craving for the new year all the more.

Eat your way around town

From laal maas to pyaaz ke kachori; from ghevar to mirchi pakora; from daal baati to churma, there is nothing that we don’t love when it comes to the food in Jaipur. Take a day {or a week!} to check out and sample the food coma that Jaipur can give you.

Cycling

Offbeat, yet authentic views of Jaipur can be gleaned early in the morning with cycle tours. From old havelis to swanky new heritage hotels, cycle tours by Seek Sherpa as well as Cyclin Jaipur are on our to-do lists this year.

Art, craft and hand block workshops

Seek Sherpa takes you on tours where you’ll learn about the history of ancient art and crafts, and use your hands to create something to your liking. You can go in for hand block printing, where you’ll be taken around the factory and shown the various techniques and raw materials used. You can also take the finished fabric back with you!

Elephant farms

You can touch, talk and play with elephants at Jaipur’s elephant farms. You can paint them or bathe them, and even get a bareback ride on these loveable creatures. We’re so excited for this one.

Cooking Classes

Given a choice, we’re obviously more attuned to eating than plating up, but here’s your chance to learn Rajasthani cooking at Seek Sherpa’s Jaipur tours. And in no time, you’ll have learnt the A to Z of the scrumptious local cuisine, in a homely environment no less.
