I was introduced to En Inde’s jewelry only recently, when my friend and LBBD writer, Ruchika, recommended I dropped by their trunk show. Sprawled across tables were these very rustic-urbane looking pieces of jewelry, artistically made with natural fibres in a hoist of colors, adorned with steel in geometric shapes, beads and silver murals. This one particular piece stole my heart- a dull gold multi-string necklace with a really interesting pendant. I didn’t end up buying it; yes it was slightly expensive {think INR 8000}, but because as usual I didn’t have a penny on me and private exhibits don’t always come with a handy card machine. The upside- turns out Ruchika bought A LOT that day including this very exquisite necklace {and though she doesn’t know this yet, I’ll be borrowing it soon.}

Now, I’m not an impulsive shopper. I’m not the sorts who’d drop a bomb on jewelry. But if I like something, I buy it. A habit I’ve stuck with over the past few years is looking for value from my purchases; that special something, a story behind the product, whatever it may be. And that’s where En Inde gets interesting.

The designs and the concept of En Inde is based on the story of India and its status quo. You have concrete, steel jungles, and then you have actual, literal jungles where survival of the fittest is redefined. You have the history of India, imminent in its monuments and ruins. And then you have urban structures breaking out in between all of this. Call me dramatic, but these characters are represented in the bespoke pieces En Inde makes. The strings of their necklaces are made with cotton threads, jute or leather, and through all these 'rural' textures you’ll find a burst of steel cut into different shapes and sizes, or antique silver pendants, shells, semi-precious and wood beads. Much like India to me, I found the jewelry complex yet exquisite, classic yet avant-garde. Sure there’s contrast, but it all amalgamates into something interesting and unique.

Notes in our Little Black Book |

  • En Inde Jewelry is not for the delicate and demure. Wear it when you want to make a statement.
  • At first glance, I’ll be honest, I thought- oh, so arty! But when you wear it with something as simple as a cream shirt or tunic, it brings an edge to the way you look and feel.
  • What I liked the most is originality in design, and the interplay of all modern and old school materials.
  • Their jewelry starts at INR 4,500. If you’re willing and able to spend, I reckon this is a purchase well worth your pennies.
  • Where to find it | Le Village in Santushti Complex, Second Floor Studio in Shahpur Jat, and Fabulloso.com

The former events manager, and PR and Marketing executive decided to give up the good life, to take on something greater- running her own start-up. Give her a non-fiction book, some place in the outdoors, running shoes, Bombay Bicycle Club and Jay Z, and you've got a happy camper.
