Shortcut

Brace the chill in the air for splendid Japanese fine dining, coupled with warming brews at Tara, an open roof-top Japanese lounge at the trendy Roseate House.

Small Plates, Big Flavours

Delightfully simplistic yet superbly crafted, Tara serves gourmet goodness in a rather unlikely setting. Don’t get fooled by a casual infinity pool side lounge vibe- this Japanese kitchen has been helmed by Chef Paul Jhon Abayan {of Zuma fame}, and he ensures each plate is a winner.

Start with the miso soup, laden with bits of salmon, prawn and tuna- this is one hearty broth, and pair it with the lettuce salad (crunchy and served with wafu dressing), before moving to a selection of inventive sushi and sashimi. For nibbles with your tipples, go with the shrimp popcorn- bite sized beauties dusted with a hint of salt and addictively hot and crisp. Herbivores, we pick the grilled broccoli stem with shizo butter for you- vibrant, fresh and nicely umami.

Crafted With Care

Of course, what’s a sexy roof top lounge bar without plenty of alcohol, and Tara has the works lined up for you. Make your way through single malts, cognac, a fine collection of wine and even sake, or submit to the charms of a handcrafted cocktail-there are classic G&Ts, Sours and a stellar old fashion waiting to be consumed.

Tender Comfort

If the nippy night, and hopefully a lot of alcohol demands more food, go for the kill with the NZ Lamb Chops served with chilli marinate. Perfectly plated, tender and juicy, the meat has a hue of spice and is divine with a glass of red. For a spot of carbs on the side go for a bowl of comfort- the Tori Chahan is starchy chicken fried rice with an undercurrent of garlic, and works just as well as an egg version too. End on a subtly sweet note- the matcha & banana pudding comes with caramel sauceand ice-cream and is the perfect ending to a fine evening.

So, We're Saying...

Minimal, stark and elegant, Tara is inventive Japanese at its very best- less is more here and each bite packs in a punch of fine flavour.
