Wooden furniture, brick walls, vintage black and white photos and bright yellow lighting; The Hangout By 1861 is one of the chillest places in Gurgaon with a menu heavy on American with a touch of Tex Mex.

Gurgaon Lovin'

I want to begin this post by mentioning something important; this place made my dislike for Gurgaon kind of go away. A tiny cafe tucked in a silent corner of DLF South Point Mall on Golf Course Road, The Hangout by 1861 has a happy vibe that’ll transport you back to the carefree days; I could easily picture myself having a gala time with my BFF army at one of its American-style seating booths.

I visited on a Saturday and there was a live band playing some great Hindi songs. It added to the whole experience and I just didn’t want to leave the place. A great plus for me, however, was that it wasn’t too crowded or too loud.

What's On The Menu?

Coming to the grub, I began with a tall, creamy glass of pina colada. It’s an ideal choice for those who plan on eating light, since it tends to make you feel a little full. Can be best described as sweet, refreshing and comforting. However, if you visit with drinking as the main agenda, go for a Manhattan {or three}.

The Crispy Baked Potato Skins proved to be great accompaniments; hollowed out potato halves stuffed with cheese and veggies, served with a dollop of sour cream and salsa. For non-vegetarians, the Pepper Chicken is a great option. The chicken pieces are dunked in a tangy pepper sauce and grilled to perfection. Do what you may but do not leave without having the Brooklyn Heights Chicken.

The super thin and crispy crust in the pizzas here deserve a special mention.

So, We're Saying...

I was too full for dessert which was really sad because they have New York Cheesecake and Key Lime Pie, both of which rank pretty damn high in my desserts list. Looking forward to try them out on my next visit, because The Hangout by 1861 is totally worth a second one.
