Kartoos: India’s First International Spoken Word Poetry Festival

The information in this post might be outdated

What is It?

Kartoos is India's first International Spoken Word Poetry Festival and is organised as a part of the Cri de Femme International Poetry and Arts Festival this time. The Cri de Femme Festival is in its 5th edition, organised every year by Movimiento Mujeres Poetas Internacional {Women Poets International, based out of the Dominican Republic} in over 40 countries. And the one in Delhi is part of as many as 130 events each year.

The Indian edition of the festival is in its 2nd year, and is an Indo-French collaboration, which will be hosted in the city from March 6th to 19th. The other parts of the festival will be in France {Paris}, Guadeloupe and La Reunion.

Who is It for?

Poetry lovers and art enthusiasts keen on listening to some stunning verse should make their way to this! While the city has seen a wave of poetry readings this last year, the festival will see spoken word artists from other South Asian countries and USA. If you like music, poetry slams, cool people and off-beat gigs, then this is for you.

Why Should I Go for It?

If you've ever swooned over Sarah Kay's YouTube videos or attended a college poetry slam and wondered where to meet some great spoken word artists, then this evening is for you. Also, if you're a Bring Back The Poets or a Mildly Offensive Content fan, then don't skip this one! Some of the upcoming international artists have rubbed shoulders with poetry slam giants like Phil Kaye, Andrea Gibson and more, so stay tuned!

Anything Else?

Probably the best place to meet all the different city poetry groups under one umbrella—Bring Back The Poets, Mildly Offensive Content, Poets' Collective, Poetry Couture, Performers' Consortium and more.
