What Makes It Awesome

Vidushi Mehra and Samar Sarila, the creative duo of Skylight, present ‘Lives of Others’, a unique experimental show for the brave hearts.

‘Lives of Others’, an original short play written by Samar Sarila, depicts modern life in its purest form, with all its dysfunctions and imperfections laid bare. The story captures unhinged emotions reaching palpable heights of intensity whilst dealing with the gentler matters of loss and consequence.

A play that seamlessly traverses through the complex layers of relationships and the people caught in between, it captures two stories, two moments in time. The first delves into the familial discord between mother and son and the fractured emotions brimming at the surface. Sherry, a blind woman past her prime and in the throes of a crippling drug dependency, is grappling over the past and the present with her son, Francis. Almost simultaneously, an equally intense scene unfolds two doors away. A couple, Ira and Joseph, caught in the midst of a bitter dissension, unable to cope, yet trying to salvage their broken union. To make matters worse, there’s a baby in the mix. As the night progresses, these two stories intersect in myriad yet minimal ways, and the pain, loss and reality of life become starkly clear. What follows is a night of revelation where emotions are laid bare, leaving its protagonists to deal with the aftermath.

Lives of Others, happening at Oddbird Theatre on May 18, 19 and 20, will be a unique theatre experience. In addition to watching the performance, the audience will also view a tech run of the play, interact with the actors, and get to attend an exclusive workshop interspersed with exciting games and role-play.

Guests also get an insight into exercises employed by directors at the rehearsal stage of a production, and learn how director builds confidence, communication and vulnerability in his actors. After which, the audience will tune in for a detailed Q&A with the actors on the construction and method of the play.
