We went for the special chef’s table for Hong Kong Club, Andaz’s newest fine-dine with modern Cantonese cuisine and had an epic night eating all the delicacies picked from the streets of Hong Kong and sampling all the cocktails based on our Chinese zodiacs.
To say that this place looks stunning would be an understatement. We’d go here for a date night or for family dinner with everyone who is a food purist. The attention to perfecting every dish from the red cabbage dumplings and scallops and black bean wontons to the peculiarly wonderful tapioca pudding made us believe that they are indeed doing Cantonese like a baos.
The evening started with cocktails based on our Chinese zodiac signs and we must say, every glass was a piece of art. Their spin on the gin and lime cordial and their Moon Rabbit with jasmine gin and champagne kept us hovering over the bar for seconds and thirds. The food, however, more than made it worth our while to leave the bar table. Make sure you leave enough room for Hong Kong style duck, crispy pork belly, curry powder and mushroom baos and bitter chocolate cake with chilly… The dishes that sealed our love affair with a cuisine we never thought we’d come to appreciate.
We were told that the club is inspired by a love story of an Indian sailor who finds his lady love in Hong Kong, and the vibe and food captures the couple’s adventures through the tiniest streets. In fact, their idea is to celebrate every kind of love affair whether it’s between two people or between people and food or as in our case, cocktails.
