One of our favourite restaurants in the city, Guppy by Ai has introduced a 6-course set lunch offering. Priced within the INR 900 – 1050 range {taxes extra}, it’s a great option for all hungry souls who are looking for the elaborate Japanese experience. After the summery Green Salad in Wafu Dressing, diners may move on to a choice of either the Miso Soup or the Mushroom Suimono, both of which can be truly relished in cooler temperatures. Having said that, there was nothing wrong with either broth, though the fermented miso flavour might take a little getting used to.

This was followed by the Sushi. Both the Japanese Vegetable and the Spicy Tuna were ridiculously good! Generously stuffed and rolled in perfectly vinagered rice, the toasty sesame seeds lent the Sushi a special touch. Each of the mains outdo the other {we tried the Teriyaki Glazed Artichoke and Tofu, Spicy Tenderloin and Grilled Jumbo Prawn}, and come with either garlic sticky fried rice or udon noodles.

The only thing amiss was the petit four dessert, almost like a crash landing of the flight back from Tokyo – tiny portion of Red Velvet Cake, a Fruit Teriyaki Skewer, and two bite-sized chocolates – not not-delicious, but just not Japanese!

The elements that make Guppy special are the supremely fresh ingredients, impeccable knife skills, and genuine attention to detail. The quirky kitschy décor is bright and refreshing, as are the cocktails. Opt for the set menu if the variety is confusing and you want a big bang for your buck.
