No More Recorded Music In Bars?! This New Delhi Govt. Rule Only Allows Live Bands

The information in this post might be outdated

In what might come as a fatal blow to Delhi’s nightlife, the Delhi Government has ordered about 900 bars and restaurants (the ones that serve alcohol) to stop playing recorded music—only live bands will be allowed to play.

We do love live gigs, but this move effectively means no other music genres—especially electronic—can be played at these bars and restaurants. The decision has been put in place after complaints from residents in places like Khan Market, Defence Colony, and Rajouri Garden.

Amjad Tak, Delhi’s excise commissioner, stated that live gigs are ‘softer’ and more ‘controlled’ than recorded music, though he gave no reason to back this statement up.

They’re going to be conducting inspections, and places in violation of this new rule might have their licenses cancelled. We all know how important music is to build the whole ambiance and vibe of a place, and this move might have you making alternate weekend plans.

What’s your favourite place with great music in the city?

We first read about it here
