A new policy to compensate Delhites for unwarranted power cuts has been approved by the Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal. As per this scheme proposed by the AAP government, discoms would have to restore electricity during unscheduled power cuts within an hour. Failure to do so would mean that discoms have to pay a penalty of INR 50 to each consumer who files a complaint within the first two hours. Penalty of INR 100 would be levied per hour after two hours of power outage.

Delhites can file a complaint by sending a ‘no current’ text message to the discom company’s official phone number, email or website. Once the power supply resumes, the companies will respond and the penalty will be adjusted in the consumer’s monthly bill. If the compensation is not paid, one can file a complain with the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Authority. The discom company would then have to pay a fine of INR 5,000 or more.

Just in time for summer when load-shedding happens too often, this policy can be the perfect solution to make our lives a lot easier.

We first read about it here.
