Let The Festivities Begin

At this very moment, cherry blossom trees are in full bloom in Japan. Traditionally, this cherry blossom festival/Hanami is celebrated with food, drinks and songs! Guppy is bringing the festivities to Delhi with their specially-curated food and drinks menu.

Start with one of their five Hanami cocktails – our favourite was definitely the Mangatini. Sochu, passion fruit and soda combine wonderfully to give you all the kick and none of the hangover. We also liked the Strawberry Sumo, another sochu-based cocktail that was infused with the flavours of fresh strawberry, basil, lime and sugar.

Keep Rollin’

The food menu is essentially divided into four courses. We sampled the Fennel, Sweet Lime and Greens salad – the Sakura dressing shines through and we’d happily munch on this on a hot summer afternoon. The Crisp Calamari Tempura was another winner for being perfectly crunchy, flavourful and comforting all at the same time.

Of the sushi, we would recommend the Mango and Tuna Roll {fresh Alphonso and Sriracha sauce work so well together!} as well as the Dynamite Spider Rolls – tightly packed soft-shell crab, cucumber and spicy sauce.

A vegetarian-friendly menu, we were quite intrigued by the Hiyashi Tanuki Cha Soba which is essentially cold, green tea flavoured buckwheat noodles served with a dashi broth and lots of fixings {think tempura fritters, wasabi, radish}. The star on the main course menu, however, was the Braised Habayaki Eel served with black and white rice.

Rain Drop, Drop Top

Do it for the sake of your Instagram feed and take a picture of the Rain Drop Cake available at Guppy as part of their Hanami menu! This jiggly, clear dessert is served with palm jaggery, a yummy syrup and roasted soya bean flour – make sure you scoop up a little bit of all the toppings otherwise you may find that bite a bit bland.
