If you are a true alcohol connoisseur and know the difference between your Speyside, Highlands and Islays then Raise The Bar Rooftop at Clarens Hotel is the place to be. They have the largest collection of vodka, gin, brandy and rum, and a collection of rare whiskey and wine from around the world. Their 20-page bar menu is proof enough that they mean business.

Let’s Talk About The View Baby

Raise The Bar offers a 360-degree view of Gurgaon from the top which means you can enjoy the buzz of the city from a safe distance. When we entered the place, the first thing that caught our eye was the beautiful fireplace at the entrance. Nothing warms you up on a cold winter night than the sight of blazing fire {but the good kind}. The decor was very earthy, with wooden decor and brown tones. Fire lamps and a beautiful bar add to lighting up this space.

Raise To The Cocktails

You know it’s a good place when you can’t make up your mind on what to have first. The owners want to take people on a trip around the world with their exclusive cocktails. They have about 30-odd cocktails that take you from Britain to America, to the Amazon and the Himalayas. Go for their Spicy Rupee, which, true to its name, comes topped with a green chilli. A vodka-based cocktail, it just warmed us up immediately. Our other favourites were the Roaring Twenties, Arachnophobia & Jazz {with beetroot in it, this is an acquired taste}. If cocktails don’t work for you, Raise The Bar offers a wide range of whiskeys, vodka, wine, gin, beer, brandy, rum, tequila, champagne…PHEW! We meant it when we said it is an alcohol connoisseur’s paradise.

Not Your Everyday Bar Nibbles

The heavier this place goes on alcohol, the lighter it is on food. The menu is not so extensive it’ll confuse you, but has everything that you could think of eating. The basics are covered with your usual burgers, pasta and sandwiches, but we decided to try something different. Their in-house Japanese chef sends out the best of authentic, homey dishes. We tried the Ebi Fry Roll, which was crisp perfection, and had the perfect amount of sushi rice. Next up was the Chicken Tonkatsu; juicy chicken cutlets on a bed of miso…ummm {still drooling}. Also, try their Fried Chicken Popsicles and Salmon Cakes, you will not be disappointed.

If you are looking for a place to chill this New Year’s Eve, watch the stars and party all night long, we would recommend this lounge. The staff is attentive and well-informed, and the chefs actually come to your table to check if you liked the food, plus; your drinks are customised as per your needs.

We are definitely going back again.
