Shortcut

Tucked away in Binsar, of the green Kumaon region, is the home stay of Mir Bahay. Free your calendar, and head on over if you desire a lesuirely time out from your hectic schedule.

Lay of the land

The owners of Mir Bahay hail from Delhi, and they opened the home stay to the public after experiencing first hand the rejuvenating affects of the place.

The space consists of a main bungalow and two additional, independent cottages with awesome panoramic window designs {to look out over the gorgeous Himalayan peaks}. The bungalow consists of the den {which includes a library with a fireplace}, living area to lounge and play music in and a dining room.

There’s more

If you fancy putting your feet up while outside, there is a wooden deck {perfect nap spot} and porch to look out at the ranges rising in the distance.

Like the camps you stayed at as kids, there is a fire pit for communal hanging out and barbequing. Just let them know in advance what raw goods you need to cook up a storm and they will oblige. Keep in mind they don’t serve booze, so your barbeque might feel.. incomplete.

What you need

While you probably don’t need us nagging you {gosh mom, we get it!}, remember to carry at least one jacket in the summers as the weather can change rapidly. In the winters carry all your woollens. Other essentials include sturdy walking shoes {for exploring}, a camera, batteries and chargers {it’ll be tough to find any once there}, and your entertainment of choice; books, paints or portable music devices.

Getting there

There are two ways to reach your final destination. The first, like all good hill station trips, is by road. You can drive from Delhi to Mir Bahay in Binsar, with the trip covering approximately 378 kilometres.

The second is by train, from Delhi to Kathgodam {from where you can easily grab a taxi}. If you don’t have a car, or don’t like road trips, this is a convenient route.
