Looks can be deceptive and this massive Nizamuddin house might not look like it belongs to the royals of Rampur, but it does and the Shahzadi Naghat Abedi’s three daughters have created Narjis, a brand that’s known for its exquisite chikankari, badla, mukaish work on beautiful Indian clothes.
This Hidden Royal House In Nizamuddin Is A Boutique Only Few Know About
Formal ethnic wear. They have a selection of suits, kurtas, saris, shararas, lehengas and everything can be customised down to the colour to the work and fit.
What Makes It Awesome
The sisters all come from an arts background. Narjis started the brand a decade ago and now juggles teaching at British School along everyday business. Her sisters Nida (she has studied fashion) and Sana (she’s been a photographer in New York), both chip in.
Their ornate drawing room, full of chandeliers and family photos and a very haveli-like vibe can put a lot of designer boutiques to shame. It’s cosy, un-intimidating and full of drop-dead gorgeous Indian ethnic clothes. We crushed so bad on the shararas and jhola kurtas. Their pre-stitched blouses were stunning too. Oh, and the sisters kept us regaled with their stories as we walked and soaked it all in.
From what we hear, people wait for Narjis’ exhibitions abroad and those in the know often find themselves at their house shopping in the most intimate home boutique ever.
P.S. You need to take an appointment before you land up. They believe in personal attention and sharing (everything from their khaandani food to style advice to family stories) when they take you around the boutique.
What Could Be Better
The Chikankari saris start at INR 60k, the badla and sequin work ones at INR 40k and the kurtis with a bit of bling and threadwork are priced at INR 12k upwards. The pret collection was our favourite and we even spotted pieces for 6k on sale. Yay!
So, yes, you pay extra when everything's handmade and if these prices aren't a bummer for you, nothing else will be.
Sometimes, a single chikankari outfit can take up to 8 months to complete. So if you’re prepping for a big occasion, make sure you have a lot of time and patience at hand. Will the wait be worth it, you ask? Well, of course. These aren’t just clothes, with all their delicate sequins and dreamy drapes… They are priceless keepsakes.
Narjis keeps exhibiting throughout the country and even abroad and announce surprise sales — it obviously pays to stalk them on social media.
