Mane Attraction | Signature Hair-Styling at Worship Salon

As women, we’ve all invested in hair irons, style machines and industrial size blow dryers. We’ve also mastered the art of a blow dry, light curls, and our ultimate safety net: straightening our hair. Although this works great for most events, we occasionally experiment at salons with up-dos and braids, and attempt to replicate hairstyles straight out of fashion magazines. So, when I was sent over new kid on the block Worship Salon’s look-book, comprising their seven signature styles, I was immediately wary. I’m all too familiar with the pieces of curls strategically left out of a heavily glittered up-do, or the dual shade hairstyle, courtesy a completely mismatched set of extensions.

Seated in the gorgeous black and white, luxe-inspired salon at Emporio, with Florence and the Machine on the sound system, I was anticipating all the spray and sparkle when senior stylist Tenzin Gawa got to work. Besides all the regular beauty treatments {threading, waxing etc}, Worship lays heavy emphasis on understanding hair, its texture and treatment, and creating signature styles. The highly trained team uses only Kerastase products. They also offer an extensive choice of beverages.

We started with a messy fishtail braid that hung loosely on one side of my hair – The Pride. Natural, perfectly messy and Grecian-inspired, I strongly recommend the style for long hair; the longer the hair, the more intricate it looks in its detailing. Next up, his personal innovation – Greed. Essentially a high ponytail, the front was backcombed and swirled inwards, almost Elvis Presley-esque. As Indians we tend to have heavy, thick hair, and therefore high-ponytails tend to sag by the end of a night. He assessed my hair, recognized that this could be a problem, and used two hairpins to fasten it securely. A very avant-garde style, I strongly recommend it for medium to long hair, and for those with a more bold sense of style. Last on our agenda, the Indolence. A voluminous blowout, it’s very runway glam reminiscent, works on all lengths of hair, and is a great switch-up to a regular, volume-inducing blow dry.

The Greatest Parts | They didn’t tear my hair out with all the brushing, the hair spray didn’t turn my mane into cardboard, and every style was finished in under twenty minutes. Most importantly, the stylist is extremely receptive, understands hair and is willing to work with your idea of how you want to look. They also offer a wide range of hair extensions, available in every length and color.

The Not So Great | They don’t have an in-house bathroom, and after sampling almost every drink they had, running around the mall in rollers was not too exciting.

Notes in Our Little Black Book | Comb over to Worship Salon for a range of signature hairdos and styling. Besides the regular beauty treatments, they have highly trained hair experts on staff to work on your mane. The hair styling service is available till 10pm, so you don’t have to hustle!
