Poila Boisakh Is Almost Here! Get To These Restaurants For Bengali Food

The information in this post might be outdated

Poila Baishakh or Pohela Boisakh – the Bengali New Year is right around the corner and we cannot tell you how excited we are to gorge on luchi, aloor dum, kosha mangso, beguni bhaja, mishti doi, and so much more. Are you looking to savour some Bengali delicacies with your entourage this weekend? Here’s our list that’ll sort you.

Nabanno

Nabanno — which means a Bengali harvest celebration, is a restaurant where you can gorge on authentic Bong delicacies in a down-home setting. Walk into the restaurant and get engulfed in heady aromas wafting from the kitchen. Check out the colourful walls with the artwork of Howrah Bridge, illustrations of men and women in traditional Bengali outfits. Tuck into Fish Kabiraji, Beguni, Chholar Dal, Ilish Er Tak, and Radha Ballavi. Dak Bungalow Chicken, and more.

Sarkar's Kitchen

Sarkar's Kitchen in Madhapur is one of our favourites when it comes to Bong food. With dishes like Chicken Posto, Doi Macch, Sorse Rui, Muri Ghonto, you'll legit love your meals here. Whether it's seafood or mutton, there is plenty for you to pick from at this simple restaurant. Don't forget to end your meal with sondesh or mishti doi, though.

United Kitchens Of India

United Kitchens of India is a restaurant that brings food from several Indian states under one roof, and it's also one of the few restaurants in Jubilee Hills to serve Bengali food. Take our advice and order Aloo Jhenga Posto (a traditional curry made with aloo, rich guard, and pop seeds) and Luchi. If you are interested in trying out the fish dishes (which aren’t that authentic), you can try the Maccher Jhol with Ghee Bhaat.

Oh! Calcutta

Oh! Calcutta in Begumpet is one of those restaurants that we hit up for our share of Bengali food. It is often said that this restaurant brings you the flavours of Calcutta, and we think it’s said so for the right reasons. Every year, for Poila Boisakh, they host a special buffet which includes various dishes of chicken, prawn, fish, mutton. We’re hoping we can devour some unhealthy helping of Mishti Doi after the lavish meal.

Kolkata House

From Fish Kobiraji to Veg Chop, Kolkata House in Kondapur might remind you of the street food scene in Kolkata. While the wafting aroma of food will draw you in, we're sure you'll stay back for a hearty Illish Vapa Thali or Chicken Kosha Thali. Tuck into Aloo Potol or Fish Jhol. There is a lot more to eat as long as you have an appetite.

Aish - The Park

Nobody does food festivals like Aish. Its Barsho Baran – Flavours of East Bengal food festival is where you rush to this weekend to get the best of both worlds – ambiance and authentic delicacies. This carefully curated food festival shall indulge in you in the Daab Chingri, Shukto, Enchor Cutlet, Potol Dolma, Sita Bhog, Sondesh etc.
