As the entire country prepares for the next stage of Unlock, i.e Unlock 4.0, Kolkata is no different from the scenario. And one of the major steps in this stage will be the restart of metro services.

The Central government has already given its green light to resume metro services all over the country from September 7 in a graded manner. However, metro services will resume in the city from September 14. The West Bengal government has even proposed issuing e-passes to travellers in order to enter the stations.

Travel will not be allowed without the smart cards and they can be recharged online. For those who do not have smart cards, they can download the Kolkata Metro Rail app on Playstore and buy an e-pass instead. According to media reports, 4,000 passes will be issued every hour, and the purpose of the passes is to keep a tab on the number of passengers travelling, since no more than 45,000 commuters can be allowed on a single day. This step is likely to take off the burden of public transport from other means of transportation. Remember travellers, make sure you take all kinds of precautions from your end too and travel safe!
