Bye Bye Traffic And Calories: Rent Cycles In New Town For Just INR 177 A Month

You can now ride around in a rented cycle in New Town – and monthly rent starts at just INR 177!

You’ve seen it New York, Boston, Chicago, London and probably across the globe in many cities. Finally we have them here in our City of Joy! Rent a bicycle is a concept that has taken the world by storm. It is part of an ongoing attempt to reduce our individual carbon footprint. Many years in the making and planning, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority {NKDA} has developed dedicated cycle lanes for its residents.

The bicycle lanes are up to code and ensure safety of its users. Currently it stretches from Action Area 1 till the New Town Bus Stop and another loop is set up from Gate 1 to 4 of the Eco Park.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to explore hidden gems of the city, this is a great way for you to spend your lazy Saturday afternoons. Most city folks tend to drive past New Town on their way to the airport and back, this new venture is sure to attract people from across the city to come spend time in the most environmentally conscious way.

Modeled on the format of the rent a bicycle stations overseas, this too will have kiosks set up along the stretch, where you can pick up and drop off your bicycle. Various options will be made available to customers, where you could either rent the bicycle for a day, for a month or even for a few hours based on your needs. These bicycles will be provided by a third party organisation that will look into the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle.

Service providers will be able to use an app-based booking system. similar to the bike taxi service in New Town. Another option will be via an automated system. Much like the payment modes at a mall parking lot, people will have access to an automated system that will track your pick up and drop off. Tentative reports say that the average cost of renting a bicycle for a month will be around INR 177.
