Ten-Second Takeaway

We scoured the city for our favourite seafood dishes on a budget of INR 250 and here’s what we came up with.

Crab Momos At Santa’s Fantasea

Santa’s Fantasea serves tribal dishes of Sikkim, Nagaland, Odisha and more. They have a tribal-themed wallpaper and statues. If you love seafood, this is the place for you. A plate of six crab momos come at just INR 120 for steamed ones and at INR 140 for the fried. The Ngatok is a fish dish inspired by the cuisine of Nagaland with melt-in-your mouth fresh fish which comes at INR 240 a plate. We also can’t get enough of their seafood rice and noodles which start at INR 180 for a serving large enough for two.

Octopus At Ecstasea

Honey Chilli Squid, Teriyaki Octopus, Jumbo Lobster and Stir Fried Crab are just some of the exciting things on the Ecstasea menu. This tiny hidden gem is where you should head to if you’re looking for pocket-friendly seafood. You have to try the octopus dishes {which come in over 10 varieties} and are only INR 250 a plate.

Chinese Fish Balls At Kim Fa

This hidden gem in Tangra has been around for years. Have a bowl of fish ball soup to beat the monsoon blues. A portion for two comes for INR 240. Add a fried chilli prawn at INR 210 on the side to add a little spice – it’s topped with fried onions and chillies.

Bengali Seafood At Fish Fish

Satisfy Bangali maachh craving at Fish Fish which has a limitless option for fish dishes. The good news is most starters are served per piece so you can have a variety. The Maccher Dimer Roast at INR 150 and Bhetki Maccher Jhuri Bhaaja at INR 125 will leave you satiated. The Chingri Maachh Diye Moong Dal {INR 150} is unique and the intensity of flavour is unparalleled.

Fish & Chips at My Big Fat Belly

The BFB fish and chips is seriously crispy-fried {it literally makes an embarrassingly loud crunching noise when you bite into it}. The mayo-mustard dip that it comes with takes the dish to the next level. At INR 189+, it is one of the most pocket-friendly versions of the English favourite available.

Bisque At Ocean Grill

The sharks on the wall and a ship-shaped buffet table set the mood for an under-the-sea experience. If you have watched enough Masterchef you know that bisques pack a punch and the Ocean Grill Special Bisque soup is no exception. At INR 170 for a serving, the clear light soup has flavours of shrimp, crab and white fish singing through.
