It’s Thai New Year Too: This Festival Is Where We’re Celebrating Songkran

Shortcut

Vintage Asia has a Songkran special Thai menu which gives you incredible Thai food and so much alcohol for just INR 1,999 all inclusive.

New Years All Around

This week is going to be celebration time not just in Bengal but also in Thailand which will be bringing in their New Year on the very same day of Poila Boishak! Songkran, or Thai New Year, is a total fiesta in Thailand and you can get a taste {literally!} of the festival right here in Kolkata. Chef Suvit Tongnark of the Phuket Marriot Resort And Spa is here with all his Thai expertise and is cooking up a storm.

Not Just Green Curry

This menu absolutely destroys the myth that Thai food is all about curries and coconut milk. There’s hardly any coconut milk in the dishes and the menu tries to explore the different flavours of Thai cuisine. Think citrus tones, hits of chilli, strong basil undercurrents and generous sprinklings of lemongrass. Everything is really brightly coloured and just pops off the plate. Since Songkran is celebrated when the weather is quite hot, most of the food is served cold {but still tastes just as good!}. If you love those big bold Asian flavours, this is where you need to be.

Our favourites from the menu are the Spicy Chicken Salad {a cold salad with crust chicken and packed with Thai herbs}, the Deep Fried Prawn Cake {a succulent, juicy, textural delight, the prawn fritter is served with a strong spicy more-ish plum sauce}, Pineapple Fried Rice {a Thai speciality, the flavourful wok fried rice is served in an actual pineapple!}, and of course the Green Curry. The standout dish will have all the seafood lovers swooning – a whole steamed tender bhekti fish which comes soaked in a tangy spicy reduction with a hint of garlic.

Pair your meal with a Lemongrass Colada {everything you love about a Pina Colada taken up a notch and given a Thai twist with a refreshing hit of lemongrass} or their selection of premium liquor which comes included in the set menu. You can choose from single malts, whiskeys, vodka and wine.

Anything Else?

It’s a limited time menu – it’s only going to be available till April 15 so make sure you get in your share of Thai before that. Vintage Asia is only open for lunch on the weekend and dinner on all days. You can go ala carte or opt for the set menu which is INR 1,999 all inclusive {premium liquor is all included in the offer!

So, We're Saying...

Poila Boishak or Thai New Year, if you’re celebrating, here’s where you should be heading.
