Located at the heart of the busiest of places in Kolkata, The New Market area, this Jewish bakery- Nahoum & Sons has been serving all types of fresh homemade bakery items since 1902.
There was a time, when our grandfathers and grandmothers used to visit this place regularly. Be it to buy freshly baked breads or confectionaries. Or be it just to meet up for a little chat . This place used to bustle with the then young generation people for sure. Even though it is now a shadow of it's time, it still manages to serve some interesting items like; cheese samosas, chocolate brownies, a selection of biscuits and cookies etc.Especially their lemon tarts are something that the people from all over the city come to eat. Their Christmas plum cake is a special one and is nearly always out of stock even from the start of the festival.
Even the present young generation, who have listened to stories of this bakery from their grandparents like me, still cherish this place. My late grandfather was a regular visitor from his very young age. Be it to buy chicken pattice for a celebration at home or to impress my grandmom or to buy treats for us little ones, he always got confectionaries from here and that's what we have done for generations.
