While they pale in comparison to Ajanta or Ellora, the Karla and Bhaja rock-cut caves, from 2nd century BC are among the better examples of Buddhist cave architecture in India. They are among the unexplored tourist places which makes them an ideal destination for a quiet excursion. Moreover, Karla has the most impressive single cave beautifully carved with its past as compared to Bhaja, which is more of a quieter and calmer site to explore.
