You can go all gaga about the rare, exotic veggies in your salad dressing. Or you can stuff your refrigerator with imported veggies from one of the bigger brands in the city. However, what if we tell you that, all this while, you’ve been missing out on rare and indigenous vegetables from our very own state - Maharashtra.
Did you know, the Western Ghats have over 50 edible wild plant species? Well, even we didn’t! Until we stumbled upon this amazing event that is promoting indigenous produce and eco-systems in India. Our favourite, The Bombay Canteen, is all set to dedicate their Sundays to discovering all things wild and wonderful in Maharashtra. Their collaboration with OOO Farms (an organisation which produces organic and chemical-free produce) led them to discover a whole new world of wild vegetables in Maharashtra’s Sahyadri forests!
So here’s what your Sunday will look like if you opt to explore the amazing wild world of Maharashtra - The event starts in the evening with an educative and interactive workshop called Wild Class Canteen, where you’ll learn about wild vegetables from a team of experts. Followed by this, there's a Wild Food Market where you get to take home baskets of veggies you just learnt about! So, be prepared to take an interesting salad to your office on Monday!
And now comes the best part: Wild Daawat, which is a 7-course meal featuring Gharbandi Bhakri Taquito, Shevla Tikki, Moras Bhaji Falafel and many more wild surprises. Their special ‘Taste Of Wild’ menu will give you a chance to feast on wild, edible produce from the Western Ghats - but with a signature Bombay Canteen touch.
The cost of the meal is INR 2,500.
