Ten-Second Takeaway

Christmas maybe less than two weeks away, but the preparations have already begun. A typical Christmas is a magical spread, so lavish that even the Last Supper has gone down in history as the most magnificent feast ever (tragedy apart). If you are hosting a party at home, or just want a spread by yourself and do not know where to begin with, we’ve got your back. We’ve curated a list of home chefs who’ll help you get the perfect Christmas fest with their traditional meals.

Mulled Wine

There are two things that act as a blanket and provide a sense of comfort during the festive season. One, the fact that everybody is joyful and two, mulled wine. While the former is a slave to conditions, the latter isn’t. There’s a hole-in-the-wall bakery in Bandra called Mav's Cakes & Bakes that does it right. You can order a bottle of their mulled wine at INR 1,000 for 1 litre.

P.S: They’re also making mulled wine jellies for you to pop at INR 1600 per kg.

Full Traditional Christmas Meal

Katy’s Kitchen, run by Parsi Chef Katy Dalal has come out with their Christmas festive menu that includes a full Christmas meal. Though their regular Christmas pudding is being missed this year, the menu boasts of baked fish Florentine {INR 250}, stuffed roast chicken with buttered vegetables {INR 300}, Pork vindaloo {INR 300}, Irish mutton stew served with parsley buttered rice {INR 400}, with their special laganu nu custard {INR 100}.

You can either order a full meal, or go in for the a la carte option. The delivery is from Churchgate to Wadala, however orders below INR 5,000 will have an extra delivery charge. The last date to place the orders is 23 December, 8pm.

Classic Christmas Rum Cake

Mani Vinaik, who runs Through The Food Door is super enthusiastic about her classic rum cake that she is offering this Christmas. A baker of almost two years, Mani tells us she soaks her raisins in rum and wine for about two months to get the perfect taste out of them. Not just raisins, she also uses cranberry, apricots, cherries and blueberries in her plum cakes, a recipe she created herself.

However, if you are not up for the cake, you can also opt for her Christmas loaf. These are smaller and weight about 350-450 grams. So far she has already been receiving an overwhelming number of orders, but she tells us since she has an abundance of raisins, she will be taking the orders till 15 January {something to celebrate your New Year’s with as well}. It’s advised to place an order at least two-three days in advance and the cakes can be delivered or picked up.

Price: INR 1400 for a cake of one kg, loaf of 350 grams for INR 300 and upwards.

To place an order, call her on 9987090418 or drop an email at manisaigalvinaik@hotmail.com
