Being vibrant has always been on our radar and when a brand promises to push this thought out, using traditional weaving methods and handicrafts to convert them to futuristic yet rooted-in-time clothing, we can all just raise our hands up in the air and shout ‘Hell, Yeah!” for all the world to see.
Mirchi Komachi (Mirchi represents unbeatable/confident/edgy; Komachi is an ancient Japanese word meaning wise & beautiful woman) is an online clothing brand that’s based in the city and is doing its bit to encourage women to enjoy traditional Indian fabrics and handicrafts every day, in non-traditional outfits, mainly upping the bar in Indian street style.
Yoshiko Inoue is the brains behind this ‘movement’, who is the founder, the designer-cum-pattern maker for the brand. She’s on a mission to support traditional handicraft and handloom artisans from across the country so that they have a chance to gain financial independence and pride in their lives.
Her snazzy collection ranges from biker jackets, blazer jackets (lights & perfect for tropical regions) in multiple prints and fabrics, hooded parka jackets, tunics, tops, to shirt dresses in Chanderi, and gorgeous skirts.
While she is currently working out of her home and selling online, we’re glad that a brand like this exists, even to help spark a sliver of hope for the fashion conscious and bridge the divide between local artisans and the end user. For now, let’s raise our hands and welcome this addition to our over-complicated lives and live in the hope to see her movement garner a lot more interest. Shop on, ladies, you’ve got yourself a winner here! And can we just say, we love the vibe of their photos?
Price: INR 800 onwards, for a simple tiered skirt. and upto INR 3300 for lovely jumpsuits with heritage prints!
