This New Carter Road Eatery Is Bringing Kolkata-Style Phuchkas To Mumbai

The information in this post might be outdated

Chaat Stories is bringing Kolkata to Carter Road, one phuchka at a time.

What Is It?

Located on Carter Road, with Keventer’s and Nice Cream as its neighbours, Chaat Stories manages to stand out with bulbs flanking its signage and the colour red helps too. A humble establishment with a cart that holds the drinks and a Haldiram’s sytem of ‘Please take coupon first’ is a sight that is witnessed often in the North. What a fresh change.

Chow Down

We had to start with the phuchkas. Priced at INR 80 {we could hear people cribbing in the background}, it was on point when it came to the taste. Delhiwallas, if you’re looking for the golgappa taste with saunth {meethi chutney}, go to Elco on Hill Road. Because while Bengal may be all about sweets, they don’t like to add it to their phuchkas.

We moved on to dahi phuchkas {INR 90} and cried a river for dahi papri chaat afterwards. They were tasty nonetheless. Also, if brekkie is a priority everyday for you, grab their ghoogni chaat {INR 90} on your way to work.

Sip On

Placed on a wooden cart with kulhads and fruit concentrates lined up, it looks endearing and reminds us of simpler days. Have their rose soda sharbat, kevara sharbat or soda shikanji, all priced at INR 90.

So, We’re Saying…

If you are missing home or are generally a very chaaty {sorry} person, get your dose at Chaat Stories. Although it did hurt when they said it’s vegetarian but we’ll take it.
