Shortcut

Ladies, looking to ring in Christmas or New Year’s eve away from the madness that Mumbai will be, but afraid of getting away on your own? Well, if you aren’t solo travelling, get your girl gang on the road and head to these quick getaways near Mumbai that we think are safe and fun for women travellers.

Diveagar, Harihareshwar & Shrivardhan

A beachy getaway for your gang of ladies to escape to is the holier-than-thou triple temple towns of Diveagar, Harihareshwar, and Shrivardhan. No, it’s not a strictly religious place, instead, is full of gorgeous and scenic beaches. To get to Diveagar, just take the right turn post Mangaon on the Mumbai-Pune Highway. From there, it’s an hour drive to this little town, which is a beautiful place known for its white sands, clear water and tranquility. The whole stretch of Harihareshwar and Srivardhan infact can be done in a day.

Five kms from Diveagar, is the scenic temple town of Shrivardhan. The Shrivardhan seashore is a quaint Kondivali beach which we suggest you can hit up with your friends {we don’t advise it during the night time though}. Similarly, if you’re hitting the road by the west coast, then stop by Bankot jetty {near Velas} to ferry your car to Harihareshwar.

There are a couple of nice lodges there, however we say stick with the MTDC Resort Harihareshwar. In terms of eating out, there are a lot of local, no-frill restaurants around the area where you can gorge on delicious chicken/mutton or seafood thali for INR 120 upwards, cooked with freshly caught seafood.

#LBBTip: If you’re into adventure water sports, you can hit up Kolad for river rafting and more.

Kashid And Murud

Kashid is a great getaway during Christmas and New Year’s {four hours drive from Mumbai}, especially with your girlfriends – it’s quiet and serene. The beaches are cleaner and not as crowded as the ones in Goa. Murud Jhanjira is a sleepy fishing hamlet of a village, with a magnificent fort in the middle of the sea {read our guide to Murud here}.

For Kashid, we suggest check out the ‘Lets Camp out’ for New Year, who organise amazing camps at the hillock which is nicely flanked by the Phansad wildlife sanctuary and the Arabian Sea {with its own secluded beach} at a walking distance.

For Murud Jhanjheera, we recommend Gulzar homestay {perfect for a group of four people}. The beautiful farm is located between the Arabian Sea and the Salav Murud highway against the lush backdrop of the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary. Here the food is included, and you get a bungalow to yourself.

Check out Letscampout here, and Gulzaar homestay here.

Udvada and Daman

Udvada is a small Parsi town just three hours away from Mumbai {read our guide here}. Here you can spend a day, even hit up the Bordi beach nearby or check out the chikko orchids.

The drive up to Udvada is safe, especially with the Nasik Highway. Go here for some cultural enrichment time with your gals.

We suggest Daman for accommodation as it has more lodges and options. However, you can also stay at the MTDC Bordi beach resort {safer, and cheaper}.

#LBBTip: If you’re driving down that way anyway, also go check out the Sula Vineyards {read our wine guide here}, to complete a trademark women’s getaway, as the route is safe and you can not go wrong with wine.

With great inputs and suggestions from Lubna Amir of Easyroads {who has travelled solo extensively}.
