In a place brimming with many Malvani joints, the not-so-fancy Hotel Purva Pangat in Dadar West does make its presence felt.
The interiors are okay but who cares when the food is the real winner! And I was certainly left pleasantly surprised and believe they are not far behind their more famous neighbours Gomantak or Achrekar Malwani Katta when it comes to Malwani style seafood preparations.
We ordered the Surmai Fry Thali and Bangda Fry thali along with bhakri. The Surmai Rawa Fry was a big flat slice of the fish crisply fried and you could feel the freshness of the fish, while the big fried piece of Bangda was also up to the mark, fried perfectly with the right amount of masala.
The fish gravy served along with the thali was so good that we each had around 3-4 refills, and we were not charged anything extra. You are served green chilly coconut chutney along with Sol Kadi in the thali.
The place has been in existence for the last 15 years but doesn't enjoy the same publicity as some of the other famous Malwani sea food places in the area, but you should definitely try it once.
