Are You Even A Real Punekar If You Haven't Eaten Misal-Pav From These 5 Epic Joints?

Sneha posted on 14 March

True blue Punekars are obsessed with three things – their two-wheeler, their afternoon nap and of course, misal pav, an authentic Maharashtrian snack served with gravy and bread. While every eatery in the city has misal on the menu, only some of them have got it right. Here’s a LBB Guide of the 5 best misal pavs in Pune that you must try right now.

Shri Krishna Bhuvan

One of the iconic eateries at Budhwar Peth, Shri Krishna Bhuvan serves probably the spiciest misal in town. Authentic and mouthwatering, their version of the snack {for INR 70} is served as a potato bhaji and poha, topped with chivda, sev and chopped onion, served with two pavs and a spicy gravy on the side. We hear their kanda-bhaji and kanda poha are worth trying too!

Kata Kirr

If you love your misal hot and spicy, head to Kata Kirr at Karve Nagar. The place is perpetually crowded, but have adopted a bit of technology to speed up their services. All you have to do is register your name and phone number at the counter. Once your order is ready, you will receive a message on the phone to collect it. Pretty cool for an old-school establishment, right?

The misals at Kata Kirr come for INR 60 and INR 70. You can choose between a medium spicy or a very spicy misal. We suggest you go for less spicy option unless you don’t mind teary eyes and runny nose.

Bedekar Tea Stall

Over 70 years old, Bedekar Tea Stall, near Maruti Temple at Budhwar Peth, is known for its legendary misal, served with sliced bread instead of pavs. Pair your Puneri misal {INR 70} with Bedekar’s special chai for a complete Maharashtrian fare.

Malhar Misal House

Malhar Misal at Pimple Gurav is fairly new, but we’ve heard quite a lot of rave reviews about the place. The misal out here is served with farsan, chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumber slices and coriander. It comes with a bowl of rassa or spicy gravy and dahi. We hear their buttermilk and mango lassi are to die for and just what you need after a spicy meal of misal.

Hotel Ramnath

Located behind Durvankur on Tilak Road, Hotel Ramnath is yet another old misal place in the city. Their legendary Kolhapuri misal for INR 60 is extra spicy, extra oily and definitely not for the faint-hearted. Wash down your misal with a glass of taak or chilled lassi.
