Shriman Yogi, Yogi Kathamrut, Swami, Vishakha, Vyakti ani valli, Premchand, Manto, Pu La Deshpande classics- you name it and this age-old library on SB Road will have it. Kalpana Vachnalaya- this name is on the tip of every bibliophile Punekar who worships literary classics. If you are looking for rare editions of books, chances are you might find it here. We stumbled upon a rarest of rare copy of Shriman Yogi, a book on Shivaji Maharaj for which the deposit was slightly high. Other than that, this place is a heaven for Hindi and Marathi books. Although known for their vintage book collection, you can find many English magazines as well. Right from Autocar, India Today to business magazines and journals, you can find it all here. The interesting part is that they have converted a quarter of the library into a daily needs store. You can buy biscuits, chips, munchies and some household items for daily use as well. With a mere subscription fee between INR 100-150, you can catch up on your reading and have a great time at this cozy library.
What Could Be Better
The collection is unique but limited. We wish there are more of recent books, especially in English.
