Last year the crew predicted the best of what was spotted in fashion in 2023, and this year is no different. What we love most about fashion trends is that we already get a glimpse of what's to come months in advance through the hundreds of fashion shows that take place months in advance, setting things in motion.
After keeping a close eye on the runways and endless discussions on what'll be hot and what's not, here are some fashion trends you can watch out for in 2024.
If there's one trend that made it to pretty much every designer's runway last year, it was sheer layering. No one can ever take away Jenifer Lopez's naked dress moment, which has only come back in full swing with the likes of Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and now even Khushi Kapoor donning something similar. Sheer clothing is seen everywhere and will, of course, be welcomed with open arms as the hottest summer trend. We're expecting to see everything, from sheer long romantic dresses to shorter versions tip-toeing around cottagecore to mesh tops bringing a tinge of Y2K, and sheer skirts like the one spotted on Florence Pugh!
The fashion of the 80s is going to be all the rage in 2024. Think of Princess Diana and Madonna in pastels, glitters, and shimmers. The era encompasses a little bit of everything but was especially great for ‘yuppie fashion’, which meant pantsuits, and blazers in pastels and bright colours, along with some acid-wash denims, oversized graphic tees, leather jackets and latex skirts and pants. These elements were showcased in the 2023 collection of designers like Brandon Maxwell and Jil Sanders, and we can’t wait for people in 2024 to embrace this style and make it their own.

80s fashion brings with it many styles, and one we think will be extra big this year is power dressing! This trend never really backed down with its structured silhouettes that give you an extremely clean and polished look. Not to forget, it makes you feel like you have your life together (even if you don't), and we're all about manifesting that energy in 2024!
Not new to the fashion industry, kitten heels have been around since the 1950s. Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast At Tiffany’s should instantly get you a mental image of these short and slender pair of heels that are usually one to two inches and have a narrow front. Recently, we’ve seen them in all the GRWMs, and it’s safe to say that this classic pair is easy to style and gives a crisp and neat look, very much matching the old money aesthetic.
2023 was the year of the ‘girlies’, as the Gen Z writer in our team would put it. We can’t deny that ‘girl math’ and ‘hot girl walks’ made us feel very seen and heard. 2024 will continue to be the year women reclaim their girlhood and embrace the typically girly traits and elements via fashion and beauty that we all pretended to despise when we were younger. We’re saying hair accessories, pearls and flowers, ruffles and bows, and flouncy dresses and skirts that would put Barbie costume designers to serious shame. The world is not ready for how healed our inner child is about to be!
The second Sophie Richie got married, and her wedding went viral, quiet luxury became a buzzword that has followed us into this year too. Essentially it refers to apparel pieces and brands that represent timeless, minimalist designs made with the finest fabrics and of the greatest quality. The style of this trend exemplifies clean lines and elegance, leaving branding and logomania far behind. They can also look like 'elevated basics or have a very old money charm to them (think pleats and tweeds). Brands like Bottega, Miu Miu, Khaite, Brunello Cucinelli, The Row and the likes have been pioneers, and while most of us meekly shut our laptops after looking at the price tags, we can expect the "style" and silhouettes of the trend to trickle down to more fast fashion brands this year.
