Kooky, quaint and cosy — that’s what WunderHaus Homestay is all about. Be sure to check into this artist’s retreat when you are in Kodaikanal solo or with your pooch. Yup, it’s pet-friendly too!

What Makes It Awesome

On the outside, with granite walls and a lush green lawn, it looks like a cottage straight out of an English countryside. Inside, it's as if the interior decorator is Mad Hatter. Quite whimsical and quite quirky with an explosion of colours. It’s like Salvador Dali meets stained glass windows. You will probably notice the large abstract painting mounted on the wall. Or you will wonder what a salon chair is doing next to an easy chair. It's for you to sit on and admire the place before heading upstairs to your room.

A short flight upstairs leads you to cosy and equally kooky, well-appointed rooms. Use the room just to sleep in, because once you have unpacked, you’ve got to head downstairs and explore the space in its entirety. And of course Instagram. There’s a cosy nook just under the staircase that leads to the rooms above that make for a spot to read or just listen to music. Our favourite spot in the house by far. Adjacent to the common room is your shared kitchen where, if informed in advance, they stock up on groceries. Or leave the cooking to the helpful staff and host who can arrange meals for you.

Pro-Tip

The property is just a hop, skip, and jump away from Fairy Falls and Kodaikanal Solar Observatory. If you don’t want to walk, you can always have a cycle or transport arranged. If it’s the latter, make sure you explore Guna Caves, Pillar Rocks, and Coaker’s Walk which are all under the five-kilometre radius. Read more about there here.
