Let’s talk about Mumbai weather – it’s humid, warm and almost always sunny. This means we are always geared up with our forever summer clothes, ray bans and a cuppa of iced cold coffee to-go. Since we all know coffee lovers comes in all shapes and forms who love their cold coffee as much as their hot cappuccino – here’s our list of favourite cold coffees in Mumbai.

Since we swear by our daily caffeine fix, Coffee By Di Bella’s “On the Rocks” iced cafe frappe had to be on our list. Though it’s popular for its Melbourne freakshake, our heart is set on its selection of iced coffees – they’re simple, delicious, with the right amount of caffeine hit – not too sweet or bitter. With its chocolate dressing – it’s served prettily in a glass and transports us to a coffee heaven {if it did exist}. Also try their Danish coffee frappe, with croissant on the side.

The Pantry is our go-to place for salads and its vintage, chic interiors. But one of our favourite cold coffees here is not just served, it’s an experience in itself. The cold brewed coffee at the Pantry has a long process attached to it.
Coffee beans are first soaked in room temperature water for at least 12 hours {skipping the hot boiling water} which makes for a less bitter and acidic coffee. Hit this one up to skip sugar and indulge in a sinful cup of their cold brewed coffee – on a hot sunny day.

Cafe Bistro 1 may easily be lost in the busy and chaotic Lokhandwala market, but we have dug it up mainly for its delicious mocha iced coffee – made with chunks of chocolate and mocha sauce infused with a shot of espresso blended nicely with ice. However, if you’re looking for a more traditional coffee, go for their classic cold coffee – which they also offer in a sugar-free variety.

Zen Cafe is a tiny all-vegetarian cafe hidden inside a furniture shop in Raghuvanshi Mills – and they serve one of the best cold coffee in town. The iced coffee selection is dreamy and creamy – blended with coffee and chocolate bits. Cafe Froid is your usual old school cold coffee shake and we loved it for its creaminess, and the just right proportions of coffee and milk.

By now, you probably have heard of Mizu- A Modern Izakaya. And if you haven’t, then it’s not too late...yet. At the helm are Vedant Malik & Chef Lakhan Jethani, both of whom share a common passion for good food and experiences, and together they’ve set up Mizu. It’s the most unassuming Japanese restaurant-cum-bar. Rather, Mumbai’s first Izakaya as they say. It’s also located at the most unassuming spot- Atria Mall, Worli. 

I walked into the restaurant hungry as hell, and I was almost convinced that I’d definitely spot sushi on the menu (to at least get started with). But guess what? There were none, and that was just one of the surprises that was in store for me. What I honestly loved about Mizu was the fact that it made Japanese food super approachable and less intimidating. The menu here is simple and focused- a variety of Yakitori, a good selection of Gyozas, Baos and their signature hot pot. What does this do for me as a first-time diner? Makes decision-making super easy and a less cumbersome process. 

I started the meal with a Yakitori platter and God knows it has been a while since a dish made me tear up (because it was so good, what did you think?) Flavourful and easy to eat, I’m a fan of this Yakitori and it doesn’t get better than this platter. Team it up with a gyoza- and you’ve struck gold. I was first served the braised shitake & buttered peas. Being a complete non-vegetarian, I thought this would be a gamble, but fortunately, I hit the jackpot. I followed this up with a pork, Naga chilli & fermented cabbage gyoza, which was equally delightful. To end the round of starters, I obviously had the Chicken Karaage Bao. The bun was fluffy, soft, and delightfully light (and not rubbery like the baos you get at most places.) 

The main course was their delicious signature Hot Pot (with pork and chicken), and the coolest thing about the dish is the delightful experience of watching it cook on your table. That’s right. However, what totally stood out was that mind-blowing broth (which I sincerely wish I could bottle and take back home.) To summarise the experience, the dish reminded me of home; of comfort. Interestingly, majority of the food at Mizu is made using ingredients grown locally, which is where the twist in flavour arises. And the fact that the team worked relentlessly for over eight months to put this menu together goes on to show their need for serving only the best. 

And if you thought this was it, then no, there’s a whole lot more. The desserts at Mizu deserve a whole new write up, to be honest, but I’m going to do my best. I started with the Chocolate Zen, which was honestly so beautiful to look at, it was hard enough for me to devour it (but I did.) And it sure as hell tasted as good as it looked. Pastry Chef Nikhil is truly a food scientist, because what he put on the plate was a variety of flavours and textures that will surprise your palate. While we’re once again on the topic of surprises, do not miss their wacky sorbets. I tried the Apple-Fennel, Pear-Wasabi and Strawberry-Shisho (and I couldn’t pick a single winner.)

There are plenty of beverages, cocktails, beers and teas that will be perfect accompaniments to your meal, so you know you’re in for a wholesome evening. Not just that, if you think I’ve eaten everything on the menu, then you’ll be glad to know that there’s a lot more from where that came, like authentic Ramen bowls, Donburi and other delicious fare. 

All of the above has convinced you already, I’m sure, but let me also throw in the fact that while the food and desserts here are a done deal, the ambience and music are killer too. I, for one, found myself Shazam-ing my way through the evening, and shamelessly asked them to share their playlist. Now call up your friends, fam, partners and make a plan to head here already. 

Mizu is a place for you to relax, unwind and indulge, and don’t let anything come in the way of that. See you there!

They offer different variants like the Deep Tissue massage (INR 900) for those who have just started working out and are experiencing sore bodies. The other variant is called Fusion, for those who just want to relax themselves. It involves a combination of low pressure to high pressure and is best experienced after a hard day at work.&nbsp;#LLB Tip: The salon offers a Happy Wednesday deal from 4 PM to 6 PM where you get one out of three services - head massage, back massage or foot massage free.

Metta Spa in Bandra specializes in foot reflexology and is a very unique experience as they are run by a collective of visually-impaired individuals. The ambience is calm and unassuming and the massage is very effective. Spearheaded by Joanita, the owner, Metta has been around for around 10 years now. Gateway Taproom famous for its craft beer has an exceptional range of cocktails and food as well. The staff is very warm and welcoming. We were there for lunch and the place is very calm with soothing music playing in the background.

We started with a Basil Hummus with Melba toast and Spinach and Cottage cheese croquettes with mayo dip. 
Totally in love with the Basil Hummus. So smooth, pure and fresh!

Burrito and Mac n Cheese for the main course! What could possibly go wrong!?

Tried a few of their craft beers. My personal favourites are White zen and Belgian golden.

Malta orange is a vodka-based cocktail made with fresh orange and curry leaves. Lucy in the sky is made with tequila, red wine, pineapple, orange and blackberry. 

Ended on a sweet note with financier which is a warm almond cake served with almond ice cream. The best seller here!

Zen Cafe is as zen as it gets- it’s an all vegetarian cafe hidden in a luxurious furniture store in Raghuvanshi Mills compound {Lower Parel} for our date goals – and even doubles up as a co-working space.

Zen Cafe was launched in 2013 – though it still remains a city secret. Think New York, Berlin or even Paris – all of these cities are known for their open cafe culture – come, sip your coffee and work on your laptop. It’s a place we would definitely recommend to get your date on {it’s cozy, hidden and serves amazing coffee} – especially if both of you are okay with its vegetarian menu {check out other veggie date places <a href="https://lbb.in/mumbai/date-spots-vegetarian-romantics/">here</a>}.
You can also book tables to work out from, just go here, and fill the form, and easily book a table or two or more for your group meetings, or just for yourself. They offer bookings for meetings, printer facilities, and more. There is no judgement going on here, the waiters are polite, courteous, and in fact will help you choose dishes off the menu.

Work, Date Or Just Chill

With its limited menu Zen still manages to shine and offer plenty to us. Though the menu is vegetarian {we are not complaining} – it has some delicious offerings. From potato rosti {with sauteed vegetables} to its quick bites of hummus with pita bread and paninis – we like it all. Zen also does really good vegetarian sushi rolls {which are hard to come by}, with a special mention to their avocado roll and California roll.
The pizzas are light, cheesy ad filling, and one of our favourites here is the wholewheat aglio olio pasta – seasoned and flavoured really well.

Chow Down

Zen Cafe, according to us, is definitely one of the best places in the city to grab a cuppa coffee {hot or cold}, especially their cold <a href="https://lbb.in/mumbai/favourite-ice-coffees-mumbai/#!/">cafe froid</a>, which we love and swear by. They also serve a fantastic drink of spiced ananas smartini- which is basically fresh pineapple juice shaken with a hint of jalapenos – a drink we say you may order to impress your date. They also have their homemade ginger ale, smoothies and juices to choose from, so go crazy.

Looking to skip over crowded cafes and want some downtown quality time with your date, or you’re just looking to work out of a quiet, peaceful cafe? We say, Zen Cafe is where you ought to be.

This Cafe And Co-Working Space Is Hiding Inside A Furniture Shop

The Tasting Room

From the very moment you step into this area, you will fall in love with Good Earth which is where the restaurant is located. From the decor on the walls to intricate designs on the plates, chairs and bowls you will notice a designer's touch in everything. The place is vibrant and still, gives a subtle vibe. You can head here for a lunch or even a quiet and peaceful dinner. The chandeliers and the lighting are dim and put you in a zen mood, especially if you have the sangria. 

The food is not exceptional and can be a bit heavy on the pocket but the interiors and the vibe make up for it entirely, in my opinion. The ravioli was soft and creamy and the pita platter was filled with dips and bread.

The biggest problem I faced was locating the place, especially on GPS. The GPS takes you to the back entrance of St Regis and that's quite far from the actual entrance. So if you cross Pheonix while driving towards the sea link, take a U-turn just before the signal and enter a small lane before the mall. This takes you to the good earth. But don't follow the GPS location.

You could shop your heart out at Good Earth, they have really good cutlery.

Anything Else?

Want To Eat A Classy Meal? The Tasting Room In Lower Parel Is The Place You're Looking For

This was my first time trying authentic Japanese food but Mizu made it memorable! It has the perfect ambience that flavoured the food more. The service makes you feel more welcomed to the restaurant. They check up on you and even suggest you dishes that will suit your taste. 

Appetizers:
For starters, we ordered local Portobello. This dish for us stole the show and had us mesmerized with the flavour. It's mushroom stuffed with cheese and rolled with zucchini. It had a little bit of sweet but burnt after taste. We had also ordered cold noodle salad which was different for me flavourful.

Main course:
For the main course, we ordered edamame and truffle gyoza which had a very fresh taste, we were provided with two dips - soy sauce and chilli oil which spiced it up a little bit. Along with this, we ordered veg ramen. We were surprised by its full quantity. It had so many vegetables that were adjusted perfectly to the noodles.

Desserts:
For dessert we ordered chocolate Zen and Japanese cotton cheesecake, it was the perfect ending to the dinner. 

Beverages:
No dinner is complete without drinks. The one that stole our heart was appletini and pomegranate yuzu!

Zen Tiger Kombucha

We found awesome in a bottle with a delicious, fizzy, fermented drink called the kombucha by Zen Tiger Kombucha.

Recently, post a sweaty and drippy workout class, we recently tried out a delicious drink, Kombucha.
Having only really heard about the health drink, and never tried this new drink fad – we took a gingerly sip out of the glass bottle, choosing the hibiscus and kokum flavour. It was cold, bubbly and extremely refreshing. We then tried the spicy pineapple {the heat of it really surprises you in a pleasant way}, and then apple cinnamon. They also have a classic flavour available.
In case you’re wondering what Kombucha really is, it is a fermented tea made with probiotic enzymes, a bacteria called SCOBY with work together with sugar to make the drink fizzy.

Drop All Other Drinks & Have A Healthy, Fizzy Drink For Just INR 150

Mizu is a Japanese Fine Dining restaurant at Atria Mall, Worli. The interiors are simple and elegant with beautiful seating arrangements. Each table had a miniature of Zen garden which was too cute. The seating arrangement was very comfortable. The drinks, food and the service were all excellent. 

Coming to the Drink, we ordered

🔸 Virgin Bloody Mary Wasabi – A simple mocktail made from tomato juice and some spices. The wasabi powder on the rim was what made this drink different and unique.

🔸 Orange & Basil Mojito – Mojito being my favourite, I had to order this. Very refreshing and a perfect mix of few orange slices, basil, Orange juice, and Soda. The taste was just perfect to start the evening.

🔸 Virgin Appletini –Mocktail made with apple juice and apple cider served in a martini glass.

🔸 Guava Togarashi - Treat yourself to a refreshing blend of Guava juice and spices. The taste was very refreshing.

Coming to the food, we ordered

🔸 Chawanmushi Seafood – This is a Japanese speciality (Izakaya which means small plates). It was suggested by the manager. Super tasty Egg custard with savoury items as topping like Brown Cap Boletus, Prawns, Spring onion greens and Caviar. It was Rich, creamy and packed with flavours. A Must try!

🔸 Gyoza Chicken & Mizuna – Four pieces of very flavorful pan-seared Japanese chicken dumpling served with yuzu citrus chilli oil and smoked ponzu sauce. It was simply delicious.

🔸 Yakitori Prawns – Six big Tiger Prawns served on a skewer which was grilled over charcoal. The prawns were soft and fresh with the right taste. Loved the spicy margination which gave a delicious flavour.

🔸 Yakitori Ramen – I can go ga-ga over this one. The chicken broth was simply wow (it had that smoky taste to it). I didn’t leave a single drop in my bowl. A super tasty combination of chicken broth, Boiled Egg, Ramen Noodles and Chicken Yakitori on the top of the bowl. A must-try main. Highly recommended.

🔸 Donburi Mushroom & Tofu – This had a very different taste. A nice and very beautifully presented Japanese rice bowl with Momiji Oroshi (Spicy Grated Daikon Radish), Edamame (soybeans in the pod) and some crispy chips and green leeks.

For Dessert, we ordered

🔸 Matcha Aduki Apple – A gluten-free dessert, incredibly delicious. It is a must-try! The presentation and the taste of this dessert were just perfect. Matcha Panna Cotta serves with apple compote, the Arukri Terrine and the apple fennel Sorbet took this dessert to the next level. A very different and very Japanese style dessert to try.

🔸 Japanese Cheesecake – This was simply awesome, looks simple but the cake simply melts in your mouth. One of the best Japanese cheesecake. You cannot miss this dessert if you are at Mizu. Highly recommended. Try it for yourself and thank me later.

It’s not only about the meal, but It’s the overall experience you have at a restaurant which you remember. My visit was worth remembering. From the time we entered until the time we were done; we had a great time. And the best part is that I had a great company. It's certainly a must-visit place. Mumbai, its time to check out a cool, innovative space in the heart of the city. Truly wonderful place to visit and have some delish healthy meal.

Located in BKC, this place is fully made of Cardboard. So basically this place serves healthy meals like Asian and Spanish and some American dishes as well. Coffee is their specialty. It also has gluten-free food.

Tried some of the dishes suggested by manager Yung he served some new dishes which has to be tried here.

1) Pumpkin Soup :
Pump as in the menu is pumpkin carrot and potato blend to perfection with Indian spice. Hands down to this soup never knew pumpkin can be delicious too.

2) Hummus platter:
A beautiful platter of hummus served with southern chips and pita bread. It had 4 types of hummus namely zen, spiffy wango and slick.zen was chickpea-based, spiffy was mung bean slick was pea and sweet potato with fried garlic.

Tried four types of appetizers - 

1) Skinny roll:
highly recommended thin yellow and green zucchini stuffed with goat cheese and sun-dried tomato served with green coco chutney. It had that perfect texture and flavours of tangy tomato and cheese. Loved it.

2)Bong:
Bengali inspired dish deep-fried ball stuffed with potato with good crispiness served with tangy bell pepper sauce with a punch of tamarind flavours.

3) What a fry:
Beetroot potato croquettes with basil and coconut stuffed with orange jalapeno sauce sweet and tangy well-balanced taste and it was coated with poha.

Also had some good main course that you should check out - 
1) Awesome:
Rice served with Andhra style coconut curry with Indian spice and some mushrooms each bite had south Indian touch in it sweet and spicy loved it.

2) Tunes:
Udon noodles tossed in southern curry again as it was a twist to this Asian dish it had authentic shitake mushrooms which goes very well with noodles. Another big bang to try.

Had hazelnut coffee which was outstanding and so beautifully served with a small cookie.

Ending the meal with a lovely dessert called Good Vibes which was an almond cake with coffee flavour. Overall It has to be visited for some peaceful and healthy meal.

Typhoon Shelter

A new cuisine’s been brought ashore by a culinary typhoon that’s hit the city. Typhoon Shelter, a new oriental-themed restaurant in the heart of Mumbai is stirring the pot with its menu created by celebrity chef Christian Yang.
The concept was inspired by the typhoon shelters in Hong Kong, man-made covers used by fishermen to shield their boats from typhoons.

What Is It?

With Chinese booths in each corner of the restaurant and a ceiling that shows a barrage of different types of skies (warm tones to evening pinks) and three different types of seating – booths, center tables and high-chairs, there’s a lot to look forward to and experience when you’ve stepped out here for a good ‘ol chomp.

Helter-Shelter

The menu, curated by Hong Kong-based celebrity chef Christian Yang, is unique and one that you should really look forward to. The menu consists of dim sums, small plates, big plates and royal staples. Highlights of the menu include signature dishes like the Typhoon Shelter Spicy Crab, Tuna Tartar, Tender Nanjing Duck as well as Hong Kong classics “Bo Lo Bao” or Pineapple Bun, Taro Nest, Hakka Braised Pork belly,  Squidink Dumplings and DanDan Noodles.
Desserts at the Typhoon Shelter have been created by dessert chef Solanki Roy (of Gaggan Bangkok fame) with oriental flavours with a contemporary approach.
All eight-plated desserts have their own character, like the Zen (with Edible Stones of Caramel Vanilla and Hazelnut Crunch), Mandarin Orange (Orange, Vanilla, Chocolate, Layered cake ensconced in an orange chocolate fruit), Colour Comb (a tribute to beautiful Chinese women wearing colour combs in their hair along with their Cheongsam) and Luna (Mango sticky rice pudding with a hint of caramel stuffed into a sugar ball). Drooling yet?

With such cosy Oriental feels and cuisine that’s ready to blow your mind, but this typhoon is totally welcome.

Behind the cold glass walls and amidst the corporate hullabaloo nidus Gateway Taproom which derived its name from Gateway of India shaped with hopes and inspiration. A microbrewery that serves flagship beers and experimental  / release beers besides classic beers. Space echoes a European themed watering hole extended to exclusive gastronomic delights. The sunkissed decor looks rustic with brown wood high tables, bistro-style benches and white brick walls partnered with swing wall lamps. White Zen meditating alongside like a saint is a sight unmissable. White & yellow gingham tablecloth is a great enhancing covering. 

Gateway Taproom can easily accommodate between 80-100 guests at a time and an ultimate party place for bachelors or bachelorette get-togethers or corporate parties. Fall head over heels with the place and don't miss the chance because there is glamour, pleasure and enjoyment. 

Chef Viraf Patel of Cafe Zoe is the consulting chef who has curated the menu with a slight of Italian, Continental and Indian cuisines making Gateway Taproom a dining place too. 

Start with what they are known for beers. You can choose 300ml, 500ml & 1000ml stein singles or flight or pitcher. White Zen, Doppelganger is classic starters with Royal Stout, Belgian Witbier, Berlin Sour to pace up the drinks.

For abstainers, the mocktails are apt with refreshing beverages like Summer Cosmopolitan made with apple, strawberry & cranberry followed with another flavourous drink Black Currant & Grape infused with lime & cranberry.

Cracker Bits are ready to eat bar nibbles with chillis and spices and a great accompaniment to your drinks. Basil Hummus with Melba Toast is a healthy and light appetizer with pine nuts, basil leaves, olive oil & fresh lemon juice. If you are avoiding fried snacks, then try Baked Parmesan Puffs with cheese & spiced bell pepper sauce. Enjoy Arancini - another easy to digest starter made up of lightly crumbed risotto & cheese balls. Prawns and Calamari Ajillo is a general recommendation by the staff prepared in citrus butter sauce. The staff insisted for Roasted Bhavnagri Chilli stuffed with ricotta & over preserved yellow cheddar. 

If you are still on for some main course then enjoy Chicken Schnitzel with skinless and boneless chicken breasts coated with flour, beaten eggs and breadcrumbs deep fried and served with potato salad. Don't miss the Grilled Prawns with veggies & mash potatoes for a wholesome seafood experience.
