About Flower Market Dadar

Watching the colourful flower market in Dadar unfold at 5 AM every morning is a sight to behold. Previously known as Phool Gully, it's chaotically beautiful, and the colours and fragrances of different flowers can soothe your senses. If you want to know about this flower market in Dadar, where all your tiny local flower markets get their bulk supply, this is the only guide you need.

The flower market starts from right outside the station, under the Dadar flyover and it's the most popular one in Mumbai. The tiny, narrow lane is lined with kiosks, stalls, and even wooden planks with one thing in common: flowers and the sweet fragrance that awaits us.

What To Buy There

The hustle is real. You will see vendors walking with heavy baskets on their heads and shoulders to catch the local train and supply their flowers all over the city. You will get a basket of marigolds ranging from INR 50 to INR 80 per kg, depending on the colour. A bunch of 20 white roses will only cost INR 50, tuberose (rajnigandha) flowers cost INR 150 per kg, rose petals for INR 120 per kg, and chrysanthemum flowers will cost INR 160 per kilogram. You can get everything for wholesale as well as retail prices.

While Indian flowers are cheaper at Flower Market Dadar, the prices of the exotic ones like lilies and peonies might be on a higher scale. But the variety you get here is absolutely insane. We spotted a vendor selling almost ten different types of roses. We also spotted the religious garlands and torans for weddings and pujas, along with loose petals for decor and vendors making flower bouquets on request.

Flower Market Dadar is a tough lane to crack if you aren't used to the daily grind of the city and all the hustle and bustle. But go there for the blast of colours, the mesmerising scents of flowers, and just because of how inexpensive they are. Prices here are not fixed and bargaining is common, but do note they can vary depending on the day. Around festivals, expect a bit of a hike!

How To Reach

This flower market in Dadar is right outside the Dadar station on the western side of the western line, so it's best accessible from the Dadar train station. If you're coming via taxi, let the driver know you want to get here.

Best Time To Visit

The market is up and running from 4 AM, and most people start showing up between 5 AM to 8 AM. By 10 AM, things start to slow down. So, if you want the freshest picks, we recommend going here right at sunrise. There's a lot of buzz over the weekends and festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali.

What's More

While you're on a flower-shopping spree, visit the flower market in Matunga too. The whole lane outside the Matunga East station (Telang Road) smells of filter coffee and freshly plucked flowers. The south-Indian garlands are in high demand always, and there is an old south-Indian style temple called the Bhajana Samaj Mandir, which is gorgeous and deserves some space on your Instagram feed.
